Job Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all maintenance operations within the facility to ensure maximum production efficiency, equipment reliability, and workplace safety. This position manages the maintenance team, preventive maintenance programs, facility repairs, equipment installations, and continuous improvement initiatives while supporting production goals and company objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Lead, supervise, train, and evaluate maintenance technicians and maintenance personnel.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all production equipment and facility systems.
  • Ensure timely response to equipment breakdowns and coordinate repairs to minimize production downtime.
  • Plan and schedule maintenance activities to support operational efficiency and production demands.
  • Oversee installation, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facility systems.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for improvement and cost reduction.
  • Maintain maintenance records, work orders, equipment histories, and inventory of maintenance supplies and spare parts.
  • Develop and manage maintenance budgets, including labor, equipment, parts, and outside contractor expenses.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, company policies, and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Coordinate with production management to prioritize maintenance activities and minimize disruptions.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee contractors performing maintenance or construction work on-site.
  • Promote and support 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure all maintenance employees follow safety procedures and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with capital improvement projects and equipment upgrades.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance functions and equipment operation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance department and work environment.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position directly supervises Maintenance Technicians and other maintenance personnel. Responsibilities include scheduling, training, performance evaluations, coaching, disciplinary actions, and staffing recommendations.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to manufacturing environments, moving mechanical parts, vibration, electrical systems, dust, odors associated with hide and skin processing, and varying temperatures. The noise level is frequently high and may require hearing protection.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and inspect equipment throughout the facility.
  • Must occasionally lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Must possess the ability to work in production and maintenance areas for extended periods.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time salaried position. Work schedules may vary based on production requirements. Availability for after-hours calls, emergencies, weekends, and plant shutdowns may be required.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or vocational training preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, welding, and fabrication systems.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and equipment specifications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance tracking software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in hide processing, meat processing, rendering, agriculture, or related industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • OSHA safety training or certification.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.

Pay: Up to $125,000.00 per year
