Maintenance Mechanic (Food Production)

Position Summary

The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production machinery and facility equipment in a food manufacturing environment. This role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with food safety and regulatory standards. The Mechanic performs preventive maintenance, supports production teams, and helps minimize downtime to keep the plant operating smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

· Perform routine maintenance on food production machinery (mixers, conveyors, packaging equipment, pumps, motors, etc.).

· Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

· Repair or replace defective components such as belts, gears, valves, bearings, motors, cylinders, and pumps.

· Maintain and repair facility equipment such as rolling racks, pallet jacks, and loading dock hydraulics.

· Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.

Preventive Maintenance (PM)

· Develop, follow, and document preventive maintenance schedules to reduce equipment failures and extend equipment life.

· Lubricate, clean, inspect, and adjust machinery regularly.

· Identify wear and tear proactively and replace components before failure.

Food Safety & Compliance

· Ensure all maintenance work meets food safety, GMP, USDA, BRC, and plant sanitation requirements.

· Maintain cleanliness and proper sanitation of equipment and tools.

· Machine Guarding

· Follow all safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).

Operational Support

· Coordinate maintenance activities with production to minimize downtime.

· Collaborate with production and quality to resolve equipment issues.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives and recommend efficiency or safety improvements.

Documentation & Inventory

· Maintain accurate logs of all maintenance activities and parts usage.

· Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to record work orders and track equipment performance.

· Assist with inventory of spare parts and order replacements as needed.

Pay: $26.00 - $35.00 per hour
