Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs major and difficult repair and maintenance on a wide variety of machinery and equipment in the water/wastewater systems. Requires the responsibility for carrying out stated repair and maintenance procedures assigned by Maintenance Supervisor under the District's work order system.

1. Maintains, fabricates parts,inspects, dismantles, repairs, modifies, rebuilds, and overhauls machinery and equipment such as:
a. Bar screens and mechanical grinders,
b. Pumps of all types,
c. Stationary engines and mixers,
d. Air compressors and related air drying equipment,
e. Ventilation systems, chemical piping and delivery systems,
f. Dust collector systems,
g. Centrifuge, belt conveyors, screw conveyors,
h. Clarifier mechanisms,
i. Valves and hydraulic control systems,
j. Spray nozzles (including cleaning),
k. Aeration equipment
l. Odor control systems,
m. HVAC systems, direct digital control systems
n. Cross connection control devices
o. Other plant or pump station equipment of a similar nature.
2. Moves heavy equipment and devices by use of hoist, cranes, forklift, dollies, or other means.
3. Lubricates machinery.
4. Performs gas and arc welding including MIG, TIG and stick processes.
5. Installs and aligns heavy equipment.
6. Cuts, threads, and joins pipe. Fabricates and assembles threaded iron pipe, welded iron pipe, copper pipe, PVC, and ABS pipe.
7. Makes minor boiler repairs, air handler and chiller repairs, boiler and chiller water chemical tests
8. Uses self-contained breathing apparatus safely and properly as stated by California Safety laws.
9. Performs machine tool work.
10. Performs journeyman level carpentry tasks including framing, remodel and forming for concrete.
11. Performs maintenance and makes repairs on export line and its components.
12. Monitors, maintains, and operates HVAC systems.
13. Creates and inputs work orders into computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
14. Adheres to and enforces stated safety policies and procedures.
15. Maintenance Mechanical Technologist II assists supervisor in training of employees in the repair and maintenance of District equipment.
16. Maintenance Mechanical Technologist II must be able to relieve and accept the responsibility of the Maintenance Supervisor in his absence.
EDUCATION
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
1. Maintenance Mechanical Technologist I requires one (1) year related experience, with experience in building trades (i.e., carpentry, plumbing) desired.
2. Maintenance Mechanical Technologist II requires three (3) years experience in the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of machinery and equipment in a water/wastewater system, with journey level fabrication, welding and machine work abilities.

PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
1. Maintenance Mechanical Technologist I requires CWEA Maintenance Technologist I certification, or ability to obtain within twenty-four (24) months. Maintenance Mechanical Technologist II requires CWEA Maintenance Technologist II certification.
2. Requires a valid, current, Class B drivers' license, acceptable by the State of California, with air brakes endorsements preferred, and with a driving record which enables insurability.
3. Requires CCO small mobile crane certification.
4. Requires ability to remain certified with the Confined Space Program and the duties of Confined Space Supervisor, Entrant, and Attendant, and Rescue, as provided during annual training.
5. Requires training and certification in the operation of District forklifts skid steer loader, articulating boom lift, loaders, and backhoes, dump trucks or equipment, as needed.
6. Requires Competent Person training for trenching and shoring, as required by Cal-OSHA.
7. Requires First Responder Haz Mat Certification.
8. Must have current, valid CPR and First Aid certificates or ability to obtain with 24 months of hire date.
9. Requires apprentice level (Maintenance Mechanical Technologist I) and journeyman level (Maintenance Mechanical Technologist II) abilities in fabricating and assembling threaded iron pipe, welded iron pipe, copper pipe, PVC and ABS pipe.
10. Requires computer skills to input work orders into computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
11. Requires ability to read, understand, and follow written or verbal instructions including blueprints, manuals, and manufacturer's specifications and literature.
12. Maintenance Mechanical Technologist II requires the knowledge of all duties stated and ability to perform these duties at a journeyman level.
13. Requires knowledge of the operation of pumps, electric motors, treatment plant equipment, and similar equipment and basic knowledge of electrical systems.
14. Requires knowledge of equipment lubrication, maintenance, and repair.
15. Requires knowledge of machine shop operation including lathes, milling machines and precision measuring equipment.
16. Requires ability to perform journeyman level arc, TIG and MIG welding including oxy-acetylene welding.
17. Knowledge of basic carpentry and masonry skills is desired.
18. Requires the ability to make repair and adjustments to mechanical equipment.
19. Requires the ability to keep work records and prepare routine reports.
20. Must have knowledge of District emergency equipment and be able to diagnose equipment malfunctions.
21. Must meet deadlines (which may be established by either State, Federal, or other governing agencies) established for this job position (i.e. mandatory certification, federal commercial drivers' license requirements).
22. Requires the ability to maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
RESPONSIBILITY
1. Requires the ability to exercise individual judgment and take prompt and decisive action when emergency situations arise.
2. Ability to work independently after receiving instructions.
