The Maintenance Superintendent role is responsible for overseeing all maintenance and repair operations of oil and gas assets to ensure safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. They manage teams, budgets, and preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies: Create and execute comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs for equipment, machinery (e.g., pumps, compressors, drilling equipment), and facilities to prevent failures and extend asset lifespan.
  • Team Leadership and Management: Supervise, train, mentor, and motivate multidisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and contractors. Conduct performance evaluations and ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and ensure all operations comply with industry standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, API, EPA).
  • Operational Oversight: Coordinate and schedule all maintenance activities to minimize disruptions to drilling or production schedules, often working on an on-call basis for emergencies.
  • Budget and Cost Control: Develop, manage, and monitor maintenance budgets, track expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
  • Inventory and Procurement Management: Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, liaising with procurement teams and vendors to source necessary replacements efficiently.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Lead the diagnosis and resolution of complex equipment failures under pressure to restore systems quickly.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), prepare detailed reports for senior management, and use data analysis (often via Computerized Maintenance Management Systems or CMMS) to optimize maintenance strategies and improve equipment reliability.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical, electrical, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience: Significant experience (7-10+ years) in maintenance management within the oil and gas.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills are crucial for managing cross-functional teams and high-pressure situations.
  • Certifications: Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT), or OSHA certifications are often preferred or required.

This role is based in Iraq, on a rotation basis of 6 weeks on/4 weeks off.
