Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep across YWCA Utah’s campus buildings and grounds. This role ensures that building systems remain operational, facilities are safe, and residents, staff, and visitors have well-maintained spaces in which to live and work.

Schedule

Full-time (36 hours), primarily Monday–Friday, with occasional evening, weekend, or on-call needs. Nine-hour workdays with one (1) weekday off per week to be scheduled.


Key Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general building upkeep.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment, systems, and facilities to identify potential issues.
  • Assist in responding promptly to urgent maintenance and repair needs and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of maintenance work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend the life of building systems.
  • Assist contractors and vendors on-site as needed.
  • Help ensure compliance with OSHA, fire safety, and building codes.
  • Collaborate with the facilities team to prioritize and complete maintenance tasks with minimal disruption to programs and services.
  • Uphold YWCA Utah’s values of equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices in all work performed.
  • Attend supervisory meetings, management team meetings, all-staff meetings, and any other trainings or meetings requested by supervisor.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff, other key publics, and any other organization and individuals important to the success of the YWCA’s work.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-2+ years of hands-on experience in facility maintenance, building repair, or a related trade OR the equivalent combination of training and skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic knowledge of building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical).
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work sensitively and effectively with people of diverse ages, ethnicity, socio-economic backgrounds, and beliefs.
  • Must be able to pass criminal background screening.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in residential, multi-building, or nonprofit facilities.
  • Certifications or training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related trades.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and working in diverse community environments.

Physical/Sensory Demands

This role requires mobility across multiple campus buildings, use of tools and equipment, and occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Safety equipment and training are provided.
