Summary Description
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment in a food processing environment while meeting objectives for safety, quality, production/delivery, and cost. This position requires proficiency in multiple skill clusters, such as electrical controls, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, fabrication, and manufacturing processes. This person will perform medium to high-level machine systems troubleshooting and repair and provide technical support for all phases of the operation. This work will be of average to considerable difficulty in the accomplishment of a variety of mechanical maintenance actions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Receives work order/request, reviews to determine tools, equipment, time, manpower, parts, and supplies needed.

When responding to crisis calls will always arrive at the scene with basic tools and equipment necessary to perform work.

Read blueprints, schematics (including electrical), wiring diagrams, technical manuals, etc.

Maintains various activity records and logs.
-
Observe equipment or machinery while in operation to detect malfunctions.

Disassemble mechanical equipment, identify faulty/worn parts, replace, reassemble, and test.

Test major subsystems or components to localize problems using specialized equipment.

Fabricate replacement parts which may require welding, cutting, or sheet metal work.

Perform preventive maintenance on various mechanical systems and equipment. Install new equipment/appliances including utilities (i.e., electrical, water, gas, or drain lines).

Responsibilities include installing, trouble shooting, and maintaining, mechanical equipment, piping systems, electrical controls/components in accordance with manufacturer's specification, local regulations, and Marson Foods food safety and safety policies.

Performs preventive and predictive maintenance schedules on mechanical equipment such as pumps, packaging and slicing equipment, harvest and cutting equipment used in manufacturing environment.

Working knowledge and skills in operating a variety of small hand tools and devices used in general mechanical maintenance operations.

Have a working knowledge of OSHA, GFSI, QF, USDA and FDA

Adhere to all FDA and USDA, Local Authority and GFSI food safety and quality policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity.

Adhere to all OSHA safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity.

Adhere to all GMP policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity.

On-Call availability
- Actively participate in plant programs and procedures:
-
Observe safety regulations, wear all required safety equipment, encourage safe working practices, correct obvious hazards immediately or report them to management.

Maintains progress report of work orders.
-
Aid in QA investigations into customer complaints where applicable.

Maintain a Master Preventative Maintenance Schedule
-
Assure customer needs are met by executing all repairs etc. in a timely manner.

Support the Emergency Evacuation Plan.

Support and maintain all management directives.
-
Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives (i.e., 5S, Kaizen, lean tools etc.)

Monitor and operate the wastewater equipment to ensure that the plant effluent is maintained at acceptable levels that meet regulatory requirements.

Clean and maintain work area after mechanical work has been performed daily.
Qualifications:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2+ years of related experience and/or training in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment; or 4 years' direct experience in an industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing maintenance environment.

Vocational Diploma, Technical Diploma or associate degree from a technical maintenance or vocational school. (Preferred).

Possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.

Ability to handle stressful situations and remain calm.

An organized problem solver, able to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift or scissor lift or other powered industrial trucks (PIT).

Experience with High-Sped Packaging Machinery and industrial electrical PLC.

Familiarity with Sanitary Environments is desired.

Mechanical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic systems and Control System knowledge is an asset.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Exceptional verbal and written communication with an excellent command of the English language.

Previous experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) an asset.

Experience working with CMMS software.

Ability to read and execute work order, write daily reports, and translate equipment manuals.
Work Environment
This position works in a manufacturing setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. The employee is exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, gloves, boots, aprons and/or safety glasses/goggles may be required.
- Ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder, shoulder-to-overhead and pushing/pulling/carrying.
- Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend/twist neck and back; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.
- Ability to tolerate humid working environments with temperatures up to 100 degrees F.
- Ability to be in contact with sanitation/cleaning chemicals.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a Full-Time Hourly position requiring 40 hours per week, and it may require working additional hours depending on the needs of the business.

This position does not require travel.
