Maintenance Technician

Job Title: Maintenance Technician - C

Classification: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Direct Supervisor: Plant Superintendent

Job Summary:

The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, maintenance, and overall upkeep of the organization's industrial machinery, equipment, and facilities. This position requires that mechanics be available for emergencies and scheduled overtime repairs.

  • None

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Safely perform industrial mechanic work as required, including construction, repairs, maintenance, installation, modification, inspections, and troubleshooting of rotating equipment.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly and efficiently to minimize downtime.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks related to building facilities, plumbing, HVAC, and lighting.
  • Work on pumps, blowers, compressors, bearings, valves, heat exchangers, hydraulic systems, boilers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, machine shop tools, and other industrial equipment.
  • Take precision measurements, including laser alignment.
  • Review and follow all safety rules, procedures, and practices.
  • Actively participate in all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security training, policies, and programs.
  • Use of Asset Essentials Plant Maintenance Module to maintain records of maintenance activities.
  • Complete assigned work safely and per Kuehne's timeline and standards, identifying any deviations and providing input on areas for improvement.
  • Work closely with other maintenance personnel, engineers, and relevant departments to address maintenance needs and improve equipment reliability.
  • Follow and maintain 5S organization and housekeeping best practices. Properly use, store, and maintain tools and equipment required for maintenance tasks.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and industry best practices through ongoing training and professional development.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to create a safe working environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with trouble-shooting ability.
  • Understand and be proficient at taking precision measurements, including precision laser alignment.
  • Working knowledge of drawings and P&IDs.
  • Must exhibit a strong work ethic, be dependable, and show initiative and ownership.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Flexibility in approach to task and openness to change.
  • Must have PC skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to serve on the plant Emergency Services Team, if needed.
  • Must have good working knowledge of at least of one of the following trades:
    • Welder
    • Pipe Fitter
    • Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic fabrication/repairs
    • Millwright
    • Carpentry
    • Pump specialist
    • Boiler Operator
    • Related trade school graduate
  • Must have the capability to use fall suppression equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to pass a 10-panel controlled substance testing and random testing after that.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation check and maintain good standing order as per TSA’s TWIC criteria.

Education and Experience:

  • High school or GED preferred
  • 1-year experience working in a chemical manufacturing facility preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work outdoors in different climate conditions.
  • Must be able to walk on secure elevated process platforms more than 15-foot heights.
  • Ability to work within magnetic fields (no pacemaker restrictions or alike).
  • Must have eye-hand coordination, use of both hands for gripping and twisting, mobility in climbing steps and ladders, working in confined spaces, squatting, standing, lifting up to 40 lbs, and pushing/pulling.
