POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained high school campus. This role supports daily school operations by performing building maintenance, coordinating repairs, monitoring building systems, setting up for events, helping with transportation, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The Maintenance Technician helps create an environment that supports student learning and staff productivity.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and minor repairs of school buildings, classrooms, offices, athletic facilities, and grounds.
- Monitor and maintain HVAC, plumbing, lighting, electrical, and other building systems.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations.
- Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and services.
- Set up and break down rooms, equipment, and furniture for school events, assemblies, athletics, and community activities.
- Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce equipment failures and extend facility life.
- Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, fire codes, and district policies.
- Identify and report facility hazards or security concerns.
- Assist with snow removal, weather preparedness, and emergency response procedures as needed.
- Support custodial operations when necessary.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders.
- Promote a positive, professional environment while interacting with students, staff, parents, and visitors.
- Work on cars and buses in a fast-paced shop environment, completing repairs efficiently and according to safety standards. Support transportation department as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification or vocational training in facilities maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or school maintenance preferred, can be substituted for a technical certification
- Basic knowledge of building systems, safety procedures, and maintenance practices.
- Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment safely.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
- Basic computer skills for work orders and communication.
- Auto mechanic skills
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and work indoors and outdoors for extended periods.
- Ability to respond to emergencies outside regular school hours when required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- School campus environment including classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, cafeterias, outdoor grounds, and maintenance areas.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, cleaning chemicals, machinery, and maintenance equipment.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience with school facility operations.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and emergency preparedness procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school administration and staff.
- Strong customer service mindset and attention to detail.
Hours
- 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday
- Some weekends and evenings as needed
- Emergency calls as needed
