Maintenance Technician - 2nd Shift

Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Location: Packaging & Pads R Us

Overview

At Packaging & Pads R Us, we specialize in corrugated packaging, and our operation relies on our biggest asset, great people.

We’re looking for a hands-on problem solver to join the maintenance team, someone who takes safety seriously, who knows their way around a toolbox with a creative, and mechanical mind that can adapt and fix problems fast to keep production moving.

If you’ve built cars, trucks, wired up your own garage, or welded your way out of a jam, you’ll feel right at home here.

This role blends fabrication, mechanical repair, and industrial electrical work. VFDs, controls, and PLC troubleshooting experience preferred but willing to train the right candidate.

You will have the opportunity to wrench on everything from conveyers, rotational shafts, cutters, slitters, unwinds, rewinds, tension control & brake systems, to specialty die cutters.

What You’ll Do.

  • Start your shift by checking in with machine operators to tackle priority issues—get hands-on with worn components, sheeters, knives, and takeaway sections.
  • Weld, cut, and fabricate mechanical parts on the fly using shop tools to keep the floor moving.
  • Set up and align conveyors, unwind stands, web guides, and more—often adapting or rebuilding repurposed parts.
  • Install, modify, or retrofit equipment using mechanical drawings and your own experience.
  • Develop new parts, weldments, or other various assemblies.

Industrial Electrical Systems

  • Troubleshoot plant equipment using multimeters, amp clamps, and electrical schematics.
  • Troubleshoot and determine root cause of mechanical issues.
  • Work with 3-phase motors, run conduit, wire panels, and troubleshoot VFDs and sensors.
  • Coordinate with manager and production manager to handle repairs.
  • Read controls diagrams and assist with diagnosing PLC logic issues (you don’t need to program, but you’ll need to follow ladder logic and isolate problems).
  • Monitor and maintain load cell systems, vacuum systems, and static elimination components.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in order to facilitate efficient planning and problem resolution.

Maintenance & Coordination

  • Handle daily rounds and preventive maintenance—bearing checks, belt tensioning, electrical panel cleaning, and greasing routines.
  • Prioritize work orders based on operator reports and production leadership direction.
  • Help coordinate outside contractors when big jobs roll in—HVAC, rigging, or major electrical upgrades.
