Senior Maintenance Technician – Sierra Blue Suites

Job Type: Part-time (W-2)

Job Summary

We are Sierra Blue Suites, located in beautiful Big Bear Lake, California, and we are looking for a Senior Maintenance Technician to preserve the good condition and functionality of our hotels.

You will perform a wide variety of maintenance tasks such as plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, landscaping, preventive upkeep, and repairs. The ideal candidate is a thorough professional with a practical mind, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while following all health and safety guidelines.

The goal is to maintain our buildings, rooms, and common areas in the best possible condition for our guests.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain a set of basic tools to be used on the job (company provides specialty tools; having your own basic set is preferred).
  • Survey buildings and repair mechanical systems to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs: plumbing, painting, carpentry, drywall, electrical, minor HVAC.
  • Take out trash and maintain cleanliness of property grounds and common areas.
  • Maintain and repair electrical systems (replace light fixtures, outlets, switches, reset breakers, clean breaker panels).
  • Assist in setup and maintenance of ventilation, refrigeration, and other systems; coordinate vendors for major repairs.
  • Maintain heating and plumbing systems to ensure functionality.
  • Inspect and test alarm systems (fire, smoke, CO) and schedule vendor repairs when required.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and seasonal upkeep (weather-stripping, caulking, snow removal, landscaping repairs).
  • Perform manual repairs when necessary (locks, doors, windows, hardware).
  • Undertake pest control activities such as spraying insecticide as directed.
  • Coordinate with and oversee outside vendors/contractors for specialized work.
  • Complete accurate work order documentation with photos/notes.
  • Assist with budget preparation and ensure expenses are tracked appropriately.
  • Travel between nearby properties as needed (mileage reimbursed with approval).

Skills & Requirements

  • Proven experience in hotel maintenance, building maintenance, or construction trades.
  • Minimum 2+ years experience in plumbing, electrical, painting, and general property repairs.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and HVAC systems.
  • Working knowledge of tools, appliances, and devices.
  • Manual dexterity and strong problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
  • Good physical condition: able to lift/move up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, bend, kneel, and work indoors/outdoors.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certificate in HVAC, building maintenance technology, or relevant field is a plus.
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) credential is desired.
  • Valid CA driver’s license and reliable, insured vehicle required.

Compensation & Perks

  • Hourly pay DOE (Depends on Experience).
  • Part-time, W-2 position.
  • Paid sick time available.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
