Job Summary:
The Maintenance Technician - Facilities Systems position is to provide efficient and safe operation of district-wide HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, waste water treatment, and drinking water systems.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Be able to read blueprints, mechanical drawings and manuals; use electrical meters and pressure gauges necessary to diagnose and repair building electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver's license.
  • Must possess one or more of the following certifications - HVAC systems including refrigeration, Waste Water Treatment Plan Certification, or Drinking Water System Certification.
  • Possess the skills and capability of completing assigned work from oral and/or written instructions.
  • Possess training and/or knowledge of computer systems used to complete work orders.
  • Posses training and/or knowledge of working from blueprints and drawings.
  • Preferably have at least one year of experience in institutional maintenance or a related field of work.
  • Preferably have supplemental training in technical skill areas.
  • Be in good physical condition and capable of heavy lifting and capable of strength moves that are an essential part of the job.

Specific Facilities Systems Responsibilities

Under general supervision, performs a variety of general maintenance duties including repairs and preventative maintenance to support efficient, safe, and healthy district-wide operations. The following description covers the most significant duties performed on a daily basis, but does not exclude other occasional work assignments not mentioned.

  • Perform HVAC/refrigeration work to include operation and maintaining oil, gas, electric and geothermal heating and air condition systems; troubleshoot chillers, to install and maintain circulating pumps, to install and repair heat poping and heating coils; actuators and filter/belt replacement.
  • Possess basic skills necessary to analyze, diagnose, troubleshoot and repair HVAC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Perform electrical repair work to include the installation of new electrical wiring or making repairs to old wiring; replacing ballasts, replacing bulbs in high areas, installing new lighting fixtures, receptacles, and switches.
  • Perform system checks and make appropriate modifications to automated control systems.
  • Respond to automated work orders, subsequently document labor, and material costs associated with each job.
  • Perform light carpentry and metal work and repairs throughout the District.
  • Assist in general building operations, preventative maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Operate District vehicles independently, via a valid driver's license, to complete job responsibilities and to fulfill district-wide maintenance needs.
  • Engage in professional learning as necessary to effectively perform all responsibilities of the position.
  • Perform daily checks of the wastewater treatment process and periodic checks of pump stations.
  • Collect and test samples of water and sewage, employing analysis standards and testing equipment, to ensure treated water meets or exceeds EPA standards.
  • Inspect machinery operating conditions, gauges and meters to ensure continued efficient operations as well as detect malfunctions.
  • Record and track plant and equipment operational data, including meter and gauge readings, and observe a regular schedule for maintenance and upgrades to prevent system breakdowns.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor, vendor(s) to determine the best practices, equipment upgrades and other operational aspects to ensure cost efficiency and functionality of water treatment plant(s).
  • Act as the District courier and pickup-dropoff district wide mail and packages.
  • Perform all other duties as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor and/or District Administration.
  • Expected to report to work beyond regular working hours to make repairs of an emergency nature, snow removal and other weekend activities, or building checks as assigned.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities

  • Ground Maintenance: maintain a professional appearance of district grounds, to include but not limited to; mowing, landscaping, painting, sidewalks and parking lots, prunes trees and shrubs, exterior lighting and building exterior.
  • Identifies and performs basic repairs of plumbing leaks or breaks: opens clogged lines and drains; replaces seals and other minor parts; maintains drinking fountains: repairs, replaces and maintains hot water heaters and other appliances.
  • Applies and prepares various surfaces for paint, enamel, lacquer, varnish or stain: removes or paints over graffiti: repairs wall coverings.
  • Removes broken glass, putty or plastic; replaces windows and door hardware; replaces glass for windows, doors and light fixtures.
  • Perform periodic maintenance of district equipment and vehicles.
  • Repair and maintenance of district playground equipment and surrounding areas.
  • Athletic Events: prep athletic equipment and fields for district athletic events and practices as needed.
  • Special Events: provide security and traffic control during special events; set-up and tear-down of facility, etc.
  • Maintain district facilities during weather related events; ensuring grounds are free and clear of potential hazards to staff, students and the public.
  • Perform general maintenance and repair of district announcement/notification systems are working at optimal functionality.
  • Inspect life safety systems (smoke and fire detectors, emergency lighting, etc.) perform any maintenance required to ensure equipment is functioning as designed.
  • Inspect buildings, electrical system, grounds and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Distribution of office equipment, desks, chairs, building supplies as needed.
  • Distribution of cafeteria food service equipment, supplies and products.
  • Delivery and distribution of inter-office correspondence, packages, etc.
  • Cross train to perform all day and evening custodial job functions when necessary.
  • Understand and use proper safety equipment and personal safety equipment.

Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting up to 75 pounds.
  • Regular bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, grasping, walking, sitting, climbing, riding, and driving.
  • Frequent travel to school district buildings daily.
  • Work may include outdoor all-season weather conditions.

Sensory Abilities

  • Visual acuity to read correspondence and a computer screen.
  • Auditory acuity to be able to use telephones, and communicate with co-workers, students, parents, and guests.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distrinctly.

  • All school properties, indoors and outdoors.

Attendance

  • Regular attendance is required. Persistent absence, and/or leave without pay, is grounds for dismissal.
