Maintenance Technician (Power Generation)

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of the electrical/mechanical systems in the facility. This role will perform work requiring a high level of skill in the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and mechanical power plant equipment and systems. Individuals who have demonstrated experience in the multi-skills that are needed at power plants are preferred.


The St Charles Energy Center is 2x1 gas fired combined cycle facility utilizing GE 7FA.05 Gas Turbines and D11 Steam Turbine. The facility uses beneficial reuse, or reclaim, water in a counterflow cooling tower for condenser cooling. The 745 MW facility is interconnected to PEPCO and sells power into the PJM market.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Maintenance of a combined cycle power plant to include troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems such as generators, motors, turbines, switchgear and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and correct electrical/mechanical maintenance problems, including components such as pumps, compressors, fans, valves, circuit breakers, transformers and all related auxiliary equipment. Diagnose and resolve issues using test equipment and electrical /mechanic schematics to prevent equipment failure and downtime.
  • Maintain plant electrical/mechanical equipment through a CMMS preventative maintenance program to ensure liability and efficiency.
  • Assist in maintaining and controlling spare parts inventory to maintain plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records
  • Assist in operation of plant equipment and systems as directed
  • Fully support and participate in Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs
  • Promote and work with others in a team environment.
  • Maintain the plant Distributed Control System and related equipment.
  • Complete required operations/maintenance training and qualification programs.
  • Must make expeditious appropriate decisions to non-routine plant operating situations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • 3 - 5 + years related experience required working in a power plant environment or relevant military experience.
  • Should be familiar with the usage of electronic test equipment and other precision test instruments to be used in identifying problems.
  • Completion of extensive technical training in electrical and/or mechanical work is required. Master electrician license is a plus.
  • Specific experience with GE 7FA combustion turbines preferred.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Physical requirements include lifting 40 to 75 pounds, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, etc. Work may be performed around rotating equipment and highly energized and/or pressurized systems
