Maintenance Technician - Second Shift 3pm - 11:30pm

Job Description

SUMMARY:

Responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of the inbound/outbound baggage handling systems at Harrisburg International Airport.

Position is Monday through Friday, 3-11:30pm and may require some weekend and/or overtime as needed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of various mechanical/electrical components associated with our conveyor system such as belting, bearings, drum motors, gear boxes, pulleys, 3ph-480v motors with and without variable frequency drives.
  • Operate various types of equipment used to support repair tasks such as a forklift or scissor lift.
  • Perform additional maintenance response within the Airport Complex, when necessary, such as plumbing leaks, HVAC alarms, passenger boarding bridge alarms, revolving door and perimeter gate faults.
  • Participation in snow removal operations is required which includes the Airfield Operations Area, public roadways and sidewalks.
  • Perform complementary customer service functions consistent with Airport Customer Service Standards.
  • Performs any other reasonable duty or assignment delegated by supervisor.


SUPERVISION:

Be able to escort or oversee support contractors when required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Possess a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Strong electrical and mechanical background to service the various electro-mechanical parts associated with a state-of-the-art conveyor system. Experience with the following systems preferred: Allen Bradley PLC’s, Nord Variable Frequency Drives, SICK Barcode Scanner Arrays, Baldor Electric Motors, Dodge Gear Reducers, High Speed Diverters (Horizontal and Vertical), and 480-volt motor distribution systems.


Required Licenses, Certificates, Conditions:

Possess a valid PA driver’s license with a good driving record or ability to obtain PA license within 30 days of hire date. Must be able to pass a 10-year FBI background and criminal investigation to obtain required Airport Identification Badge.

Ability to comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions. Must exercise good judgment, work independently, make decisions, organize and maintain detailed information. Be able to effectively set priorities. Be able to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations without precedent. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Be able to apply common sense principles and understanding required to comply with written and oral instructions, as well as basic diagrams. Be able to work independently with minimal supervision.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, talk and hear, taste and smell and climb. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, and must be able to distinguish full visual color spectrum. Must be able to work in confined spaces, and at elevated heights for long durations of time.

Work Environment:

While performing essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme outside weather conditions, fumes, and airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, working in precarious places, with risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.


Language and Communication Skills:

Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language. Possess the ability to establish effective working relationships with fellow co-workers and subordinates. Employees are expected to regularly communicate with supervisors, co-workers, FAA tower operators, other departments, contractors, and consultants. Uses ground and maintenance radio communication equipment, requiring correct terminology and ability to speak clearly and concisely.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to perform basic math skills required.


Computer Skills:

Basic skills preferred.
