K-12 Maintenance Description

Job Title: K-12 Local 70 Maintenance 1

Department: Facilities/Maintenance

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Location: Lac Qui Parle Valley School District

Position Overview:

The K-12 Maintenance is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of school buildings and grounds. This role involves performing a variety of custodial tasks to ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. The position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to perform basic cleaning and upkeep on school facilities. The hours for this position will be more of an afternoon shift. Earliest start time would be 11:00am

Custodial Duties:(When needed)

· Clean classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and other public area within the school building.

· Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, and sanitize floors, carpets, and surfaces.

· Empty trash bins and dispose of waste according to school guidelines.

· Clean and maintain windows, doors, and restrooms, ensuring all fixtures are sanitary and functioning.

· Replenish supplies (e.g., toilet paper, paper towels, soap) in all areas

· Report any safety or sanitation issues, such as leaks, broken fixtures, or faulty equipment.

· Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and notify supervisor for reordering.

Safety and Compliance:

· Ensure that cleaning supplies and equipment are used in a safe and responsible manner.

· Follow OSHA guidelines and school safety policies to minimize risks.

· Ensure that fire exits, alarms, and other safety features are accessible and in good working order.

· Follow protocols for the disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with local regulations.

· Maintain records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed.

Other Responsibilities:

· Assist with moving furniture or equipment when needed

· Provide support during school events, assemblies, or other activities.

· Work with other maintenance staff, contractors, and school personnel as needed.

· Participate in ongoing training to stay current with safety practices, equipment, and technologies.

Qualifications:

· Education: Training or certification in building maintenance is a plus.

· Experience: Previous experience in custodial work or related fields is a plus.

· Skill and Abilities:

o Knowledge of cleaning products, techniques, and equipment.

o Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

o Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical tasks, including standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.

o Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Physical Requirements:

o Ability to lift 50 pounds.

o Ability to work in various environments, including classrooms, offices, hallways, and outdoors.

Working Conditions:

· May involve working evenings, weekends, or holidays. Usually only in emergency situations.

· Exposure to chemical and various maintenance tools and equipment.

· May need to work in various environments, including classrooms, offices, hallways, and outdoor areas.
