Maintenance Worker (Public Services)

The City of Aiken is seeking a Maintenance Worker to join our Public Services Department.

Examples of Duties:

• Installation and maintenance of seasonal flowerbeds
• General landscaping maintenance
• Performing manual labor and related duties
• Installs sod, trees and various other plants
• Applies pesticides and herbicides
• Operates chipper and a variety of commercial mowers and small engine hand tools
• Employee is subject to performing all maintenance work within the Public Services department, including but not limited to grounds maintenance, yard debris collection, solid waste collections, janitorial services, etc.
• Works in inclement weather.

Teamwork is an essential function of the job and at times it may be required that the candidate work outside the Grounds Division.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A working knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees is preferred
• Experience with tractor/large equipment is desirable.
• Candidate must be able to read and write, as well as understand and follow verbal instructions
• Must have a valid state driver's license.

Schedule:

• 8 to 10 hour shifts
• Primarily Monday to Friday with occasional weekend duties
• Overtime
