Responsibilities include:
Maintenance/Handyman/Donation Truck Pick up Associates will be customer service oriented, professional and friendly, and attention to detail, be hard-working, knowledgeable of building and property general maintenance and have the ability to lift up to 100 lbs assisted.
The New Beginnings Maintenance/Handyman/Donation Pick up associate is responsible maintaining the company’s properties to make them attractive and always functional for patrons’ use & safety, assist customers with mobility of larger, heavier, & unattainable items & assist staff members with larger, heavier items, displaying certain items, & deep cleaning the building. This Associate must work and help with general warehouse operations as well as maintain our delivery and pick up schedule for our customers.
This Associate should be able to work fast, multitask & adapt to daily challenges with a positive attitude.
- They Must:
- Drive a 16 ft. box truck and utility van
- Drive a pre-scheduled route, assigned by the Thrift Store Manager and/or Assistant Manager, to pick up donations from customers and clients.
- Operate the vehicle in a safe and responsible manner, observing all rules of the road as well as those established by management.
- Be cognizant, always and under all circumstances, that the vehicle and its personnel are "ambassadors of goodwill" and a "moving billboard" for New Beginnings Resale/Holy Childhood of Jesus Parish of the Diocese of Gaylord.
- Be responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicle and the need for preventive maintenance, including oil changes.
- Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Manager or Assistant Manager including daily tasks and check lists.
- Complete daily logs and adhere to the truck maintenance schedule.
- Assist in using lifts, dollies, and other equipment for heavy items, as well as safety belts to prevent personal injury.
- Schedule important routine maintenance and perform such on equipment and machines used for jobs and document it
- Keep all maintenance records properly
- Repair and also troubleshoot every defective equipment
- Assist Cleaning person to clean & maintain cleanliness in every part of the building and store, including the windows, floors, roofs, and restroom.
- This includes vacuuming with the backpack vac EVERYDAY focusing on seams in cement, under racks, corners, etc…DETAILS.
- Remove trash from the floor and empty trash bins appropriately
- Run errands as described by the Manager/Asst. Manager
- Keep all work areas organized and clean
- Clean ceiling fans, radiators; mop, vacuum, sweep, and dust all dirt prone areas
- Engage in special projects and certain heavy cleansing tasks.
- Keep building and premises, including sidewalks and play areas, safe, neat and clean always.
- Shovel and salt outside walkways, ramp, steps, appropriately promoting safety for walking with daily documentation. Check throughout day to keep clear.
- Provide regular/orderly trash/cardboard/recyclables removal; empty trash cans daily and assist in keeping the grounds free from garbage.
- Aid in minor building repairs such as replacing light bulbs. Report major repairs and property damage to management.
- If assigned, Responsible for closing the building; ensuring doors and windows are secured as well as turning off lights except lights left on for safety reasons.
- Vacuum/power clean weekly with backpack vacuum. SEE ABOVE
- Move/arrange furnishings, supplies and equipment as directed in back room for safe aisleways etc.
- Inform management about workplace concerns such as damaged equipment, leaks, noises, structural defects, unusual odors, etc.
- Notifies management when supply levels require replenishment.
- Ensures that materials are labeled/stored properly and seeks advice about product use or disposal procedures.
- Follows approved health and safety guidelines to clean up injuries involving chemicals, solvents, blood, body fluids and/or body tissues. Reports personal injuries that require treatment to management.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures including local, state and federal laws and regulations. Attend safety, training and informational meetings.
- Protect property and ensure assigned work areas are secured at the end of shift.
- Maintain a professional appearance and wear work attire appropriate for the position.
- Punctual; provides prompt notification to management of attendance delays or absences
- Always adhere to Diocese of Gaylord regulations and remain confidential.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

Additional Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull, climb and balance, bend, with frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling.
- Operate equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools
- Adhere to safety. security and sanitation practices, handling cleaning solvents and/or necessary repair products (i.e. paint, adhesives)

- When Assigned, Assist with the receiving, sorting, cleaning, and pricing of donations at donation door.
- When Assigned, Tests electronic donations for working condition.
- Assist with the delegation of tasks to volunteers/disciples
- Follow all store opening and closing procedures
- Handle situations in a professional and responsible manner.
- Be able to work independently as a team member….NO STANDING AROUND…ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO!
- Assist in the maintenance of the interior/exterior of vehicle. Keep vehicle clean, in good operating condition to include maintaining fluid levels and replacing and/or adjusting minor worn or damaged parts (belts, plugs, fuses, etc). Keep vehicle on a preventive maintenance schedule and work with outside vendors when necessary (tires, body repairs, etc.).

- Load/Unload furniture, clothing, housewares and related items on and off the trucks, ensuring safe arrival of goods.
- Maintain a clean Michigan driver’s license.
- Report accidents.
- Ability to operate box truck, pallet jack, Joey lift and other warehouse equipment and/or ability to learn
- Perform miscellaneous jobs.
- Check the fire alarm, emergency lighting and building security systems monthly.
- Develop working relationships with professional tradesman (i.e. electrician, plumber, etc.) and access them when necessary.
- Pick up items from & to stores, businesses, private homes, etc.
- Be certified and/or trained on equipment

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists customers with purchasing & loading furniture…DETAILS…Follow procedure using yellow purchasing slips & green sold slips. Make SURE FORMS ARE COMPLETELY FILLED OUT.
- Assists with shifting merchandise onto sales floor & organizing in processing area. ALWAYS SAFELY & NOT DAMAGING FURNITURE.
- This includes use of ladders to hang art/pictures/merchandise on walls & upper shelving
- Assists with maintaining building & store improvements
- Complies with all applicable training requirements.
- Complies with all company safety, personnel and operational policies and procedures.
- Complies with work schedule to ensure effective operations of ministry programs.
- Contributes positively as a member of a productive and cooperative team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (Pending on position and if prior to hire is approved by Management, a comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum education qualifications)
- This position requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- A clean Michigan Driver’s License (CDL preferred but not required)
