Maker Services Technician (part-time)

Would you love to help bring ideas to life and foster a culture of creativity within the community? Warren-Newport Public Library in Gurnee is seeking a knowledgeable Maker Services Technician to join our team and assist the growth of Maker Services at WNPL within The Workshop.

This is a Grade 6 part-time, non-exempt position at an average of 12 hours per week. The starting hourly range is $21.27-$26.23 DOE. We’re looking for individuals who can work one of the following schedules:

  • Monday and Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with two 4-hour Saturday shifts per month.
  • Monday and Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with two 4-hour Saturday shifts per month.
  • Monday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with two 4-hour Saturday shifts per month.
  • Wednesday and Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with two 4-hour Saturday shifts per month.

Saturday hours alternate from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.


Here's what you'll do:

  • Assist in overseeing the Workshop, ensuring efficient usage, training, and availability of a variety of machines for patrons of all ages with troubleshooting/problem solving capabilities.
  • Assists in preparing Projects of the Week.
  • Creates a welcoming and inclusive environment in The Workshop, fostering a love of crafting and creation.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Maker Services on what equipment and materials should be available at the library, ensuring all members of the community have access to resources and opportunities to develop their skills.
  • Some duties outside of The Workshop will require a basic understanding and knowledge of library functions that are used at the other desks.
  • Spanish language skills preferred.

Requirements:

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Excellent crafting and troubleshooting skills
  • 3D Printing and sewing experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of maker services and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a fast paced or public facing environment.
