What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Manager GL Accounting Position

The Manager, General Ledger Accounting, plays a critical role in overseeing Colonial Pipeline Company’s accounting close and consolidation processes. This role leads a team of professional accountants and partners closely across Accounting, Finance, Technology, and other cross‑functional teams to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting.

In this role, you’ll serve as a people leader and subject‑matter expert, guiding close execution, strengthening internal controls, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll also act as the functional administrator for key accounting applications and lead modernization efforts that improve efficiency and scalability across the general ledger and close cycle.

What You Get to Do

Lead and oversee the monthly accounting close, eliminations, and consolidation processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Manage, coach, and develop a team of accounting professionals while providing guidance on complex close and accounting matters. Partner across accounting and cross‑functional teams to meet key close milestones and maintain strong internal controls.

You’ll coordinate and review journal entries, reconciliations, intercompany eliminations, and variance analyses, while ensuring compliance with company policies and GAAP. This role also leads strategic initiatives such as close automation, SOX compliance efforts, system upgrades, acquisitions, and changes to legal entity reporting structures. As the functional administrator for close applications, you’ll collaborate with Technology and vendors, support enhancements, and develop end‑user documentation and training.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in general ledger accounting, consolidations, and eliminations
  • Experience leading or reviewing month‑end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Background working with large ERP systems and accounting applications
  • Proven ability to manage priorities in a deadline‑driven environment
  • Experience leading or supporting accounting system implementations, upgrades, or process improvements

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and financial analysis
  • Advanced proficiency with financial systems and accounting applications
  • Strong attention to detail with a results‑focused mindset
  • Effective planning, organizing, and multi‑tasking abilities
  • Clear, confident interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sound judgment and decision‑making capabilities under pressure
  • CPA or Master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (preferred)
