Manager of Building and Grounds

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Facility Maintenance & Repair

  • Oversee daily operations, maintenance, and repair of all church buildings, systems, and equipment (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, security, etc.).
  • Develop and implement a regular maintenance schedule for both preventive and corrective work.
  • Coordinate inspections and ensure compliance with all safety, health, and building codes.
  • Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance when appropriate, or coordinate with approved contractors.

2. Grounds & Exterior Care

  • Maintain the church grounds, including landscaping, gardens, parking lots, walkways, signage, and outdoor lighting.
  • Manage snow removal, seasonal landscaping, and lawn care schedules (either directly or through contractors).
  • Ensure the exterior environment is consistently clean, safe, and visually appealing.

3. Custodial Oversight

  • Supervise custodial staff or volunteers, ensuring facilities are clean, stocked, and prepared for all ministry activities and events.
  • Develop cleaning schedules and checklists for daily, weekly, and deep-cleaning needs.
  • Manage inventory and ordering of cleaning and maintenance supplies.

4. Event & Ministry Support

  • Coordinate room setups, tear-downs, and equipment needs for worship services, ministries, and special events.
  • Collaborate with ministry leaders to ensure facility use supports ministry goals and timelines.

5. Budgeting & Vendor Relations

  • Develop and manage the annual buildings and grounds budget.
  • Source, negotiate, and manage contracts with vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Track expenditures and ensure cost-effective use of resources.

6. Safety & Security

  • Maintain safety standards throughout all facilities.
  • Ensure fire safety systems, emergency lighting, and first aid supplies are up to date.
  • Work with staff to ensure proper key control, building access, and alarm procedures.

Qualifications

  • A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, with a heart to serve through practical ministry.
  • Experience in facility management, maintenance, construction, or related field (3–5 years preferred).
  • Working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, and coordinate staff and volunteers.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Basic computer and scheduling software skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical work as needed.

Hours and Compensation

  • The Manager of Buildings and Grounds is a full-time, salaried, benefits eligible position.
  • Minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • All staff are expected to help out where needed.
  • Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.
  • Payment will occur twice monthly.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $49,000.00 per year
