Manager of Contractor Sales (Landscape Nursery / Sacramento, CA)

About Us

Green Acres Nursery & Supply is a family-owned, industry-leading group of high-volume retail garden centers and wholesale landscape nurseries. Since opening in Roseville, CA in 2003, we’ve grown to seven retail locations in Northern California and three in North Texas. We serve both homeowners and professionals with a deep assortment of plants, landscape supplies, irrigation, and outdoor living products – supported by excellent service, expertise, and value. Our vertically integrated growing operations include Matsuda’s Nursery (CA) and Powell Plants (TX).

About the Role

We’re investing in the next phase of growth for our contractor and trade business – and this role will build it. The Manager of Contractor Sales is responsible for developing and leading our Contractor Sales function across our retail locations in California and Texas (currently 10 and growing). This role will define strategy, build the structure, and drive execution to grow revenue from landscapers, designers, and trade professionals.

You’ll work through and alongside teams at each location to elevate how we serve the professional customer – while also directly building key relationships and identifying new opportunities. This is a highly visible role that requires someone who can operate without a playbook, influence across teams, and turn a strong existing business into a more intentional, scalable growth engine.

The Manager of Contractor Sales position is based out of our Support Center in Folsom, CA (not a remote role), and reports to the Executive Vice President.

What You’ll Own

  • Responsible for achieving annual contractor sales revenue, gross margin, customer acquisition, and retention objectives across California and Texas operations.
  • Develop and execute a companywide contractor sales strategy across all locations and identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and customer segments.
  • Drive profitable sales growth while maintaining company margin expectations.
  • Build and evolve a contractor / trade program (pricing structure, service model, delivery/logistics, loyalty, account management).
  • Provide leadership and direction to contractor-facing team members at each store; establish standards, expectations, and accountability.
  • Partner with Store Managers to ensure consistent, high-quality execution of Contractor Sales services across locations.
  • Develop programs and partnerships that expand contractor adoption of Outdoor Living, Irrigation, and specialty product categories.
  • Personally develop and manage relationships with key landscapers, landscape contractors, designers, builders, property managers, HOA management companies, and other trade professionals.
  • Leverage the full company current and future offerings – including plants, landscape supply, irrigation, and Outdoor Living – to increase share of wallet.
  • Collaborate with merchandising and inventory teams to align product mix and availability with contractor demand.
  • Partner with operations to improve efficiency, fulfillment, staging, and delivery capabilities for professional customers.
  • Work with marketing to develop targeted outreach, events, and engagement strategies for the trade community.
  • Establish KPIs and reporting to track sales growth, customer acquisition, retention, and profitability.
  • Monitor competitive landscape and bring forward ideas to maintain and build the company’s best-in-class contractor services.
  • Influence hiring, organizational structure, and staffing of contractor-facing roles to support growth and consistency across locations.

What Success Looks Like

  • Meaningful company growth in contractor / trade sales across all locations
  • A clearly defined, consistently executed contractor program
  • Strong adoption and engagement from store-level teams
  • Increased retention and spend from high-value contractor accounts
  • Improved operational experience for contractors (speed, availability, service)

This Job Is for You If…

  • You’ve built or scaled a contractor business, not just managed one
  • You know how to lead through influence instead of direct authority
  • You’re comfortable operating across multiple locations and markets
  • You naturally connect dots between sales, operations, and merchandising
  • You’re as comfortable in the yard or on a job site as you are in a strategy meeting
  • You see white space and immediately think, “we can build that”

Candidate Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in landscape or other contractor sales, B2B sales, and/or trade-focused business development (landscape, nursery, irrigation, building materials, or related industries strongly preferred)
  • Proven track record of growing revenue and developing landscaping and other contractor relationships
  • Experience working across multiple locations, regions, or territories
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through influence and cross-functional collaboration
  • Strong understanding of contractor needs, workflows, and purchasing behavior
  • Strategic thinker who can execute at a high level as well as work tactically in stores with a “roll-up-the-sleeves” approach
  • Highly self-directed with strong ownership mentality
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills (comfortable using data to drive decisions)
  • Proficient in Excel and familiar with POS / ERP systems
  • Regular presence in store locations required, along with travel to Texas locations, industry trade shows, and other business-related travel as needed
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, based on business needs

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $100,000 – $150,000 annually, plus bonus potential. We offer an industry-commensurate benefits package, including 401K with company match (after one year), health insurance (with HSA option and company contribution), dental insurance, vision insurance, paid vacation, paid sick, and merchandise discounts.
