About the Role


The Manager of Creative Content is a hands‑on marketing, communications, and design‑forward professional responsible for executing high‑quality campaigns, content, and visual assets that strengthen Ascend’s brand and support key organizational priorities. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Visiting Ascend’s 17 Brooklyn-based schools to record and edit short-form video (~30 seconds to 10 minutes) for website, YouTube, and social media
  • Designing collateral (brochures, one-sheets, advertising materials, merchandise) to support student and staff recruitment efforts
  • Cross-department collaboration to collect and package stories—text and video—of academic progress and “wins” that can be shared on the website, social media, ad campaigns, and press
  • Translating Ascend values and family value propositions into compelling, family-friendly marketing copy and slogans


This role focuses on day‑to‑day execution and translating priorities into clear project plans, timelines, and deliverables. The Manager of Creative Content ensures consistent, timely, and mission-aligned communications across digital, print, and in‑person channels, with a particular emphasis on producing polished, engaging materials that stand out.


This role is intentionally scoped below the Director of Marketing and Communications, with responsibility for campaign execution, visual content creation, and coordination.


Core Responsibilities


Campaign Execution & Project Management

  • Execute multi‑channel marketing and communications campaigns aligned to student recruitment, talent acquisition, and organizational priorities.
  • Translate campaign goals into detailed project plans, timelines, and task lists.
  • Manage day‑to‑day workflows to ensure deliverables are completed on time and meet quality standards.
  • Support campaign calendars and coordinate deadlines across teams.


Content & Collateral Development

  • Use tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and Canva to design, organize, and distribute content.
  • Draft, edit, and produce high‑quality content, including videos, emails, newsletters, flyers, social media posts, web updates, and event materials.
  • Design and refine visually compelling print and digital collateral that elevates Ascend’s recruitment and brand materials.
  • Translate messaging and goals into clean, engaging layouts and visual storytelling.
  • Ensure all content reflects a consistent voice, tone, and visual identity, with a high bar for polish and clarity.


Cross‑Functional Coordination

  • Collaborate with Student Recruitment, Talent, Advancement, and School Teams to support communications needs.
  • Coordinate logistics for photo and video shoots, events, and swag ordering.
  • Support vendor coordination for design, printing, and media production as needed.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, journalism, or a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated video expertise, including the ability to record and edit short-form video (~30 seconds to 10 minutes) for website, YouTube, and social media, required.
  • 3+ years of experience in marketing, communications, multimedia, or content development preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience executing campaigns and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience supporting digital platforms, email tools, and social media channels.


Skills and Traits


  • Proficiency with design and editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut)
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong visual design sensibility and ability to create materials that are both on‑brand and engaging.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Strong alignment with Ascend’s mission, values, and commitment to educational equity.


Compensation


The salary for this position begins at $70,000. Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience and levels of attained education.


Location & Work Arrangement


  • Based in our Brooklyn, NY office
  • Hybrid work schedule requiring in-office presence at least three days per week

In-person work expectations include network office time, stakeholder meetings, school visits, special events, and other role-specific responsibilities as determined by management.
