Manager, Social Impact

Position Description
Tandem Global’s Manager, Social Impact is part of the Consulting Department’s Social Impact Hub and reports to the Senior Manager, Social Impact. This role supports the organization’s social impact and conservation-related activities through project management, partner engagement, and implementation support across Tandem Global’s membership and partnership landscape.
The position works with both community partners and corporate members and requires an independent, motivated professional who is comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This role includes consulting with companies to strengthen their social performance, supporting grant-funded social impact projects, and contributing to innovation across the organization.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Support implementation of Tandem Global’s Strategic Plan.
  • Support strategic corporate and community engagement programs and projects across multiple U.S. regions and globally.
  • Expand corporate and community engagement by supporting grant-funded social impact opportunities, including proposal development and report writing.
  • Lead tree planting activities and other social impact services (e.g., education) through a regional and collaborative approach across Tandem Global departments.
  • Build and maintain relationships with conservation and non-conservation institutions, including technical partners.
  • Manage assigned programs and projects for companies, governmental agencies, private foundations, and other partners.
  • Deliver social impact-focused consulting services that strengthen Tandem Global’s impact consulting offerings and contribute to the growth of the Consulting Social Impact Hub.
  • Track and report on project progress and budgets to ensure timely completion, member satisfaction, and financial viability.
  • Build and maintain knowledge of industry sectors, including operational challenges, corporate and economic trends, and opportunities for engagement with Tandem Global.
  • Ensure efficient, high-quality conservation support is provided to members, partners and grant-funded initiatives implementing on-site conservation activities.
  • Contribute to Tandem Global’s growth and relevance in key business and conservation sectors through strong project execution and partner engagement.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in related field
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic initiatives execution
  • Must possess a knowledge and interest in both the conservation and corporate landscape, including conservation priorities, corporate social responsibility, etc.
  • Three (3) years of experience with ecological consulting, wildlife management plans, and community relations, particularly working in industrial or post-industrial landscapes
  • Skills to identify, prioritize, and engage diverse stakeholders including community groups, NGOs, employees, and vulnerable populations
  • Culturally sensitive and inclusive facilitation approach
  • Knowledgeable in integrating equity and justice into social impact initiatives
  • Understanding of complex social systems and interdependencies between business, communities and ecosystems
  • Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, and have an entrepreneurial attitude
  • Located in the Detroit or Greater Detroit Area
  • Knowledge and interest in global/international Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) trends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills must include MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); GIS skills are a plus
  • Ability to reflect Tandem Global’s values and associated competencies internally and externally
Work Environment
The position is fully remote, meaning the candidate can work from home, but must be based in the Greater Detroit Area given the place-based nature of project activities. This position can require irregular work hours. Travel (up to 30%) for internal events (staff retreats, Tandem Global’s Annual Conference, or similar) and client-related meetings and events (e.g., on-site plantings) is expected.
This position includes some light physical work. The employee should be able to lift up to 30 lbs. and can expect frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. The employee may also be standing, sitting, or walking for prolonged periods of time. They can expect frequent bending, typing, and kneeling, and will complete frequent visual inspections. The employee is occasionally climbing, crouching, crawling, digging or stooping.
The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions including the extreme cold (temperatures below 32oF for more than one hour). The employee is very occasionally exposed to extreme noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. The employee may be subject to hazards including moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding in high places, exposure to extreme heat, chemicals, oils, solvents, asbestos, or radiation. Safety briefing and/or training will be provided in such cases.
