Manager, Technical Trainer

Position Summary

The Manager, Technical Training is responsible for leading the design and delivery of the technical and on-the-job training program for both the effective induction of new hires, as well as, the ongoing improvement and proficiency of existing employees. This role ensures personnel are fully trained and qualified to perform manufacturing, laboratory, and quality operations in compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards. Develops training strategies that identify curriculum, training format, and evaluate training effectiveness.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Determines training objectives by conducting analysis of overall needs and specific skills or knowledge gaps.
  • Leads and motivates a team of Technical Trainers to ensure their performance is maximized.
  • Develops educational curricula and material and while increasing trainees’ engagement with learning sessions.
  • Effectively organizes and manages multiple training initiatives simultaneously.
  • Partners with the GxP Training department and department management to identify technical training needs and design, implement and deploy an effective, standardized, and comprehensive training program while identifying improvements to the existing training curriculum.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. Provide guidance/support and troubleshoot issues in creative ways to help trainees feel motivated and supported.
  • Develops individualized and group training programs that address specific business needs.
  • Establishes and/or revises technical educational training materials including but not limited to videos, guides, SOPs, Work Instructions, and Learning Manuals.
  • Develops and maintains a training schedule, coordinate staffing and scheduling of all training activities.
  • Delivers training sessions and ensure training documentation is maintained. Ensure training schedules meet company production and quality targets.
  • Creates processes that enable timely and actionable performance feedback of trainees.
  • Will act as Training SME for client and regulatory audits.
  • Establishes key performance indicators to measure training effectiveness. Evaluate organizational performance to ensure that training is meeting business needs and improving performance.
  • Facilitates timely resolution and closeout of quality records specific to Technical Training.
  • Responsible for KPI’s related to training effectiveness.
  • Holds regular 1:1 meetings as well as team meetings to emphasize corporate culture, maintain morale, and provide a forum for staff development and discussion.

  • Highly organized and capable of successfully managing multiple priorities using effective time management techniques
  • Advanced experience with instructional methods, team coaching and skills development.
  • Written and oral communication skills in English; facilitate effective presentations

  • Stays current on training methodologies, strategies, and adult learning principles.
  • Clearly assigns responsibility for tasks and decisions; sets clear objectives and measures; monitors process, progress, and results; designs feedback loops into work.
  • Provides challenging and stretching tasks and assignments, holds frequent performance and development discussions and oversees action plans for each direct report.
  • Provides current, direct, complete, and “actionable” positive and corrective feedback to others. Technical Capacity, Problem Solving, Analysis, Leadership, Business Acumen, etc.
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (i.e. Life Sciences or Learning and Development preferred).
  • 5-10 years of experience in cGMP environment or similar experience
  • 3-5 years of direct supervisory/management experience is required
  • Knowledge of cGMP, GDP, GLP
  • 5+ years of experience in a training role preferred (particularly On-The-Job Training).
  • Strong knowledge and application of adult learning theory and instructional design principles with a strong focus on eLearning/virtual design/graphic design and training methodologies, utilizing the latest interactive learning technologies.
  • Strong working knowledge of various authoring and eLearning development tools, i.e., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Adobe Connect, PhotoShop, Lectora, Camtasia, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects, and/or Adobe Premiere.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment, detail oriented, willingness to “roll up sleeves” and do the work required for success.

Working Environment

Onsite Employees: Employee will work with moderate noise level. Employee will perform tasks while experiencing numerous interruptions. Employee may travel by car and airplane to work at different locations and may occasionally be required to travel overnight. The work environment is fast paced. This position has the utmost responsibility for compliance with the rules and regulations regarding a safe and healthy work environment relative to their actions and conduct. Off-shift, weekend and overtime duties may be required. While performing the job duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use English written and oral communication skills.

While performing the duties the employee is:
  • Constantly required to sit, and to reach to use computers and other office equipment
  • Frequently stand for extended periods of time, up to four hours/time

  • Constantly required to view objects at close and distant ranges with hand and eye coordination
  • Frequently required to communicate with others

Special Working Conditions

Manager of Technical Training will support cleanroom activities and must be able to comply with Minaris personal hygiene standards as they apply to aseptic processing. The employee must successfully complete sterile gowning training/qualification and aseptic process qualification (personal media fill) as well as annual/semiannual re-qualification as a core competency requirement of their employment in this role.

  • Must be able to work during the weekend, holidays and as required by the company.
  • May be exposed to infectious diseases transmittable through human blood, tissues, or bodily fluids and are expected to utilize universal precautions with all human specimens.
  • Must utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling all human specimens, gases, corrosive chemicals, and liquid nitrogen.
  • Must have the ability to work with specialized equipment.
  • Must be able to handle the standard/moderate noise of the manufacturing facility.
  • Gowning proficiency as needed.

Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) as part of the compensation package.
