The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC), the state’s college access and financial aid agency, has an immediate opening for an experienced information technology and communications professional to support and manage agency websites. The Manager, Website Administration, a new role at the agency, will play an important role in the current (in process) redesign and development of the isac.org website, which is being led by an external vendor and internal staff. Once the new website is launched, the Website Administrator will be responsible, in collaboration with the agency’s IT, Communications, and other divisions, for maintaining agency websites, including helping to define content governance and manage content, updating the site, ensuring security and optimized performance, troubleshooting technical issues, and collaborating on the development of new features or functionalities.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a range of skill sets that include both technical and project management/communications skills. Technical skills required include web design and development, coding, technical troubleshooting, and IT security. We also seek a strong communicator, a professional who will not just manage updates and post content, but who can also understand the content being posted and the needs of the varying audiences that ISAC serves. Our preferred candidate will have experience developing content protocols and other website guidance and policies, administering a website or sites to ensure adherence to protocols, and experience in managing a site or sites that have multiple contributors.

Our candidate is highly organized and has project management skills/experience; PMP certification is preferred but not required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred but not required. We seek a strong problem solver: you demonstrate an ability to ask relevant questions, identify important sources of information, and think outside the box as necessary to find answers.

This position reports to the Communications and Marketing division but works extensively with the Information Technology division and the various other divisional liaisons. The position is a hybrid in-office/remote position. ISAC is in Deerfield, IL.

Key Responsibilities of a Website Administrator:

  • Content Governance and Management:
    • Assist in developing content governance for new website;
    • In collaboration with website team, update and maintain website content, including text, images, and other files;
    • Ensure that web content is updated in accordance with governance and with security and other protocols.


  • Technical Maintenance: Troubleshoot website issues, resolve errors, and ensure the site functions correctly.
  • Security: In collaboration with ISAC Security team, implement and maintain security measures to protect the website from threats.
  • Performance Optimization: Help ensure the website is optimized for search engine ranking (SEO) and user experience.
  • Database Management:
    • Ensure the integrity and relevancy of data stored on the website's database;
    • Ensure compliance with content governance rules and policies in retiring web pages.
  • Backups and Recovery: In collaboration with the web team, implement and maintain regular backup procedures to prevent data loss.
  • User Experience: Ensure content creators and web team comply with style guides and requirements for site map to ensure a user-friendly site.
  • Accessibility: Ensure web pages meet all legal standards and protocols to make website accessible to users with disabilities.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track website usage data and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
    • College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      • Associate’s degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    • Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
  • At least five years of experience with web design and development using programming languages, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • At least two years of experience and highly proficient in Drupal architecture, with the ability to develop custom modules and themes, support and manage databases, and understand security best practices.
  • At least two years of experience using cloud-based content management systems like Acquia or Adobe Experience Manager.
  • Previous experience understanding and applying OWASP Top 10 web application security risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Previous experience independently managing all aspects of one or more large websites (i.e. thousands of pages and visitors) including website maintenance, upgrades, updates of the content, and backup/recovery.
  • At least two years of experience communicating procedures and processes that ensure alignment with website content governance and explaining technical issues to various stakeholders.
  • At least two years of project management experience, addressing continuous content and technical website updates, including day-to-day administration and maintenance.

Salary Range: $90,000-$95,004

Hybrid Schedule: Initially in office 3 days a week with additional remote work to be considered after successful completion of probationary period.
