We are seeking a Manufacturing & Automation Engineer to support our production and engineering teams as we expand our automation capabilities and modernize our manufacturing processes.

Job Summary

The Manufacturing & Automation Engineer will design, build, and program automated and semi-automated equipment used in coil and transformer production. This position blends traditional manufacturing engineering responsibilities with software development, PC-based machine control, and equipment design.

This is a hands-on role working closely with engineering management, production staff, and maintenance to implement new systems, improve efficiency, and enhance product consistency. The engineer will support automation and process improvement projects while collaborating across departments to meet production goals.

Key Responsibilities

Automation & Programming About Us

  • Design, develop, and program automated or semi-automated production equipment
  • Develop and maintain PC-based control systems for custom tools and machines
  • Write software for machine control using C/C++/C#, Python, VB, and embedded systems
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, motion systems, and data-acquisition hardware
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and upgrade automation systems for performance and reliability
  • Assist with data handling, machine logging, and database interactions (SQL Server)

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Design, document, and optimize manufacturing processes for coil and transformer production
  • Support new product introduction through process flows, tooling requirements, and work instructions
  • Assist in the design and development of custom tooling and production equipment
  • Participate in improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and scrap/rework reduction
  • Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day issues
  • Establish and maintain process standards to ensure consistent quality and reliable output
  • Evaluate and recommend new equipment, tooling, and technologies to enhance manufacturing operations

Training & Support

  • Train production staff on new processes, equipment, and best practices
  • Support maintenance and engineering teams with troubleshooting related to automation and controls

Qualifications

Education (Preferred):

  • Electrical Engineering Technology (EET)
  • Mechanical Engineering (ME)
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET)
  • Electrical Engineering (EE)
  • Computer Engineering (CE)
  • Manufacturing Engineering

Degrees paired with a Computer Science minor are a strong match, Computer Science majors with a mechanical and engineering background would also be considered.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience in manufacturing, automation, software development, or machine design is helpful
  • Programming experience with C/C++/C#, Python, VB, and embedded systems
  • Experience with sensors, actuators, motion systems, and PC-based control hardware
  • Knowledge of SQL Server is a plus
  • Proficiency with CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and communicate effectively
  • Willingness to learn and work closely with engineering management
