Position Summary
Becker Machine & Balance is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Estimator / Process Engineer to support our precision machining and repair operations.
This position is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates, manufacturing routings, bills of material (BOMs), and production plans for custom machining projects. The successful candidate will serve as the initial process engineer for new opportunities, determining how parts will be manufactured, estimating cycle times, identifying material requirements, and creating efficient routing structures before jobs reach the shop floor.
This role is ideal for an experienced machinist, manufacturing engineer, estimator, or shop leader with a strong machining background who enjoys solving complex manufacturing challenges.
Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
Estimating
- Review customer RFQs, drawings, specifications, and models.
- Develop accurate labor, material, tooling, and outside service estimates.
- Develop bills of material (BOMs).
- Determine machining strategies and manufacturing methods.
- Calculate cycle times and setup requirements.
- Evaluate profitability and identify manufacturing risks.
- Prepare customer quotations and supporting documentation.
Process/Production Support
- Create and maintain manufacturing routings.
- Determine material requirements and starting stock sizes.
- Identify tooling, fixturing, and subcontract requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of estimating standards and manufacturing processes.
- Assist with job launches and first-time manufacturing projects.
- Review manufacturing challenges and recommend improvements.
- Work closely with operations, scheduling, purchasing, and management.
Qualifications Required
- Strong background in machining and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of machining economics, cycle times, and manufacturing methods.
- Experience developing manufacturing routings and process plans.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
Preferred
- Experience estimating custom machined components and assemblies.
- CNC turning and milling experience.
- Experience with large-part machining and large-diameter turning operations.
- Experience with repair and rebuild work.
- ERP experience in a manufacturing environment.
Highly Desired
- JobBOSS² experience.
- Previous experience as an estimator, manufacturing engineer, process engineer, shop lead, or senior machinist.
- Mazak / Mazatrol familiarity.
- Experience in job shop and low-volume/high-mix manufacturing environments.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
