Marina Del Rey | Family Assistant

THE FAMILY OVERVIEW | A warm and welcoming family in Marina del Rey is seeking a part-time Family Assistant to support the day-to-day operation of their household. The family includes two parents, a happy and thriving 7-month-old daughter, and three beloved indoor cats. One parent works from home, while the other is currently enjoying this special season of being home with their daughter.

Their daughter is a cheerful, social infant who loves using her voice, spending time on her play mat, and playing with her favorite crinkle toys. She is exclusively breastmilk-fed, has just begun her transition to solid foods, has no known allergies, and currently follows her natural sleep and daily rhythm cues rather than a strict schedule.

The family is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Family Assistant to provide household support and help maintain an organized, well-functioning home. Initial responsibilities will focus on household assistance, including laundry, dishes, errands, pet care, organization, and general household support. While childcare is not a primary responsibility at the outset, candidates should have experience with infants and young children, as the role is expected to gradually evolve alongside the family's needs.

The position begins at approximately 20 hours per week, with the potential for additional hours and childcare responsibilities over time for a candidate interested in a long-term opportunity.

THE JOB DETAILS | The Family Assistant will play an integral role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the household and helping maintain an organized, efficient, and well-cared-for home.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Cooking, food preparation, and meal prep
  • Washing, drying, sanitizing, and organizing dishes, baby bottles, and breast pump parts
  • Family laundry, including washing, drying or hanging, folding, ironing as needed, and putting away clothing and linens
  • Light household upkeep, including managing garbage, recycling, compost, and diaper disposal
  • Pet care for three indoor cats, including feeding, refreshing water, maintaining litter boxes, and tidying pet areas
  • Running household errands, including grocery shopping and unpacking, store returns, pharmacy pickups, and post office or P.O. Box visits
  • Light household management, including welcoming contractors, coordinating with cleaners and other service providers, and helping ensure household projects run smoothly

While the position will initially focus on household support, the family hopes to find someone who enjoys working around young children and is open to gradually incorporating childcare responsibilities as the family's needs evolve. Any expansion of duties will be accompanied by dedicated time and compensation that reflects the role's changing scope.

The family is seeking a long-term fit and would welcome a candidate who is open to occasional evening, weekend, or travel support in the future, though these responsibilities are not part of the initial position.

THE HOME ENVIRONMENT | This is a quiet, thoughtful, and detail-oriented household that values consistency, clear communication, and mutual respect. The family has established systems and routines that help their home run smoothly and is happy to provide guidance and training. The ideal candidate will be attentive to details, follow instructions carefully, communicate proactively, and ask questions whenever clarification is needed.

The family's parenting philosophy is rooted in responsive, attachment-based, and gentle parenting practices. They do not utilize cry-it-out methods and prioritize meeting their daughter's needs with patience, attentiveness, and empathy. While childcare is not a primary responsibility at the start of the role, alignment with this approach will become increasingly important as the position evolves.

The family maintains a low-screen environment around their daughter. Television, tablets, and laptops are not used in her presence, and personal phone use is kept to a minimum. When music is played, the family prefers calm options such as classical or jazz.

Kind, respectful communication is highly valued within the home. The family appreciates simple updates on completed tasks, proactive communication about anything requiring attention, and a collaborative working relationship built on trust and respect.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE | The ideal candidate is a seasoned, warm, and highly organized Family Assistant with 10+ years of professional household experience preferred. This is a stable, long-term opportunity best suited for a calm, mature professional who enjoys supporting a well-run home and takes pride in their work.

Strong communication skills are essential, along with a strong command of the English language, both written and verbal, to ensure clarity and safety within the household. The ideal candidate is patient, grounded, and proactive—someone who follows detailed instructions carefully, asks thoughtful questions when needed, and takes initiative without requiring close supervision.

Strong cooking and meal preparation skills are required, including the ability to follow recipes accurately and accommodate a gluten-free household. Experience with infants and young children is important, and a background in early childhood development is a plus. Familiarity with attachment-based parenting, positive discipline, nonviolent communication, or the work of Harvey Karp is welcomed but not required.

Additional assets include fluency in German or French and/or musical ability, as both parents enjoy playing piano and guitar.

This role is best suited for a dependable professional with strong judgment, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in building a long-term working relationship with a family. The right candidate will take pride in maintaining a high standard of care, supporting the household thoughtfully, and helping create a calm, organized environment.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a demonstrated track record of following household instructions and care guidelines with precision
  • Comfortable working in a fully fragrance-free environment (including personal care, laundry, and household products), due to a documented chemical sensitivity within the home
  • Comfortable around cats with no allergies; responsible for basic pet care
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to independently manage recurring household tasks

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Fully vaccinated per standard adult immunization guidelines, including Tdap, MMR, pneumonia, varicella (vaccination or immunity), annual flu, and COVID vaccinations
  • Willingness to wear a mask upon request and proactively communicate any illness, symptoms, or known exposure prior to arriving at the home
  • Commitment to maintaining an alcohol-free and smoke-free work environment

Professional Requirements

  • Valid U.S. work authorization
