Basic Function

The Front Desk Receptionist shapes both the first and final impressions members and guests have of Lighthouse Point Yacht Club & Marina. In addition to greeting members and managing front desk operations, this position runs the ship store and operates the fuel dock for member and guest vessels. The role requires comfort working both indoors at the front desk and outdoors on the docks in all weather conditions common to Southeast Indiana and the Ohio River.

Essential FunctionsFront Desk & Reception

  • Greet members, guests, and contractors warmly upon arrival, ensuring every visitor feels welcomed.
  • Answer telephones, direct calls, and take messages with appropriate etiquette.
  • Actively promote the Club/Marina's dining, social, yachting, and other amenities, along with upcoming events.
  • Handle transient boater and guest check-in and check-out functions efficiently.
  • Accept packages and deliveries from UPS, FedEx, USPS, and other carriers.
  • Perform data entry, including creating, updating, and managing spreadsheets and reservation logs.
  • Operate standard office equipment, the point-of-sale system, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Club/Marina software.
  • Operate QuickBooks Online as the Club/Marina's ERP system to process transactions, post member charges, and assist with day-to-day bookkeeping.
  • Assist administrative staff with duties as directed.

Ship Store Operations

  • Open, operate, and close the ship store, providing friendly and knowledgeable service.
  • Ring up purchases, fuel, beer and/or wine through the point-of-sale system and accurately process cash, credit, and member-charge transactions.
  • Stock shelves, rotate inventory, and keep displays clean, organized, and well-presented.
  • Receive deliveries, check items against packing slips, and assist with periodic inventory counts.
  • Monitor stock levels and notify management when items need to be reordered.

Fuel Dock Operations

  • Safely operate the fuel dock to pump gasoline and/or diesel for member and guest vessels, following all safety procedures and environmental regulations (U.S. Coast Guard, EPA, and Indiana DNR).
  • Complete Club/Marina-provided fuel handling and spill response training prior to operating the fuel dock.
  • Assist boaters with docking and line handling at the fuel dock as needed.
  • Accurately record fuel sales, complete daily fuel logs, and inspect pumps, hoses, and related equipment regularly; report any issues or spills to management immediately.
  • Keep the fuel dock area clean, organized, and free of hazards; provide basic guidance to members regarding local waters and Club/Marina facilities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience/training.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must hold a valid U.S. Driver's License and have a good driving record.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online is required, as it is the Club/Marina's ERP system.
  • Ability to learn Club/Marina software systems and accomplish necessary tasks on a computer.
  • Comfortable handling cash and reconciling daily sales.
  • Prior experience in customer service, retail, or hospitality preferred; experience in or around boats and marinas is a plus.
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen; employment is contingent on satisfactory results.
  • Must adhere to all Club/Marina safety policies and fuel-handling procedures.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand for extended periods at the front desk, in the ship store, and on the docks.
  • Ability to regularly bend, kneel, balance, and carry equipment or merchandise up to 25 pounds, including fuel hoses.
  • Ability to safely move on, off, and around vessels and to climb on and off fixed or floating docks during various tide and weather conditions.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather extremes, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Exposure to fuel fumes and cleaning chemicals; must safely handle fuel and follow all environmental and safety procedures.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work any assigned shift or schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and seasonal holidays/events.
  • Any other task, written or verbal, assigned by management.
