Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Accountant with shipping experience to lead our accounting department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, and providing strategic financial insights to support our company’s goals. This role requires strong leadership skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple financial functions effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing all accounts of vessels and communicating with ship management.
• Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, payroll, and tax compliance.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and forecasts.
• Monitor and analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Manage budgets and financial planning processes in collaboration with department heads.
• Lead the preparation of annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
• Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Experience in shipping accounting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA/CA certification is a plus).
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Tally, Zoho, …).
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
