POSITION TITLE: MARINE PILOT
Location: Oman
Age Limit: 40 to 48 yrs
Compensation- 2,615.00 OMR – Gross monthly salary
End of Contract Bonus after completion of 24 months/two-years a Figure of OMR 9,000 / Family status contract - fully paid air trip per year for employee, spouse and up to four children not over the age of 19. / School fees; 4 children up to 18 years of age, with a maximum of OMR 500 per child per year / life insurance policy & health insurance
Purpose: Under general supervision of the Marine Services Manager/ Senior pilot, this position ensures the safe handling of vessels in and out of the Port.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Carry out pilotage services to ships in a safe and efficient manner.
- Supervise special towage operations as required by the marine management,
- Carry out STS as and when required by marine management.
- Establish adequate coordination and communication with relevant parties prior to carrying out any marine operation.
- Establish good working relationship with tugs crews, port control, and other relevant parties.
- Provide on job training for trainee pilots.
- Assist in training of marine staff.
- Ensure relevant records and forms are maintained in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain efficient knowledge of local marine environment in order to provide adequate advice to masters of calling vessels.
- Keep good lookout on all navigation aids and immediately report any malfunctions to port control.
- Coordinate with GSO to check for any damages on the quay wall or mooring equipment and immediately report to port control.
- Provide marine management with timely advice on all matters relevant to the efficient function of the marine department and provide suggestions for improvement.
- Participate in all departmental functions and meetings as required by marine management.
- Maintain proper representation of the company.
- Participate in a roster system with the other Pilots to maintain cover on a 24-hour basis.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Education: Requires Academic degree in Maritime field, additional qualifications will be an advantage.
- Requires a minimum of COP as marine pilot, for Omani pilots, COC for non-Omani + master mariner equivalent with experience of 5 years pilotage.
- All STCW courses.
- Experience: Requires at least 5 years’ experience in handling large ships within harbor areas, utilizing conventional and tractor tugs. Working knowledge of tug operations.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
- Must be thoroughly familiar with all types of vessels that call at port.
- Requires ability to analyze all marine situations.
- Requires advanced level of verbal and written communications skills in English.
- Requires ability to submit accurate and detailed reports.
- Requires good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Must be able to motivate and lead a small team.
- Must be able to exercise good judgment in order to set priorities.
- Must have the ability to train potential pilots, tug master and crews in all marine operations.
- Requires proven IT skills or aptitude.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Work environment is in an around the port on various types of vessels.
- Must be able to work in rotating shifts, days, evenings, and nights. Requires overtime work, and work on holidays and weekends, depending upon shift schedule.
- Must be able to be available at short notice to cover for absence/sick leave on an ad hoc basis.
- Required to observe all safety and health requirements for work areas.
- Must be able to take charge of all aspects of marine operations, in all weather conditions.
- Must have professional appearance, consistent with local customs and work area.
