Market Placement Specialist

Hybrid - Phoenix or Chandler, Arizona

The Mahoney Group, founded in 1915, is a premier insurance agency of approximately 250 employees headquartered in Chandler, Arizona. We’re searching for an accomplished and relationship-driven Market Placement Specialist. In this role, you’ll be responsible for leading the placement of basic to moderately complex commercial insurance accounts across multiple markets. This position serves in a commercial risk placement capacity, driving market strategy, negotiating coverage structures, and maintaining carrier relationships to deliver optimal outcomes for clients.

What You’ll Do
  • Leads the placement of basic to moderately complex commercial insurance accounts.
  • Develops and executes comprehensive market placement strategies for new business and renewals.
  • Analyzes detailed risk exposures, and loss experience to position accounts effectively with carriers.
  • Prepares and oversees high-quality underwriting submissions, coverage comparisons, and market presentations.
  • Negotiates pricing, coverage terms, limits, deductibles, and program structure with standard markets as well as wholesalers.
  • Serves as the primary market-facing representative for assigned commercial accounts.
  • Maintains and expands relationships with carriers, underwriters, wholesalers, MGAs, and specialty markets.
  • Provides strategic placement guidance to insurance advisors, client managers, and client executives.
  • Supports senior placement specialists and mentors account service team.
  • Monitors and communicates market conditions, carrier appetite shifts, and emerging coverage solutions.
  • Participates in carrier meetings, stewardship reports, and client presentations.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards, carrier requirements, and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Provides input into process improvements and best practices related to market placement and carrier engagement.
  • Attends and participates in internal meetings and completes required training.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned or required.

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in commercial insurance placement, underwriting and/or brokering.
  • Active state Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance license (required).
  • ARM, CIC, CPCU or other professional insurance designation preferred.
  • Deep expertise in commercial lines coverages, exposures, products and markets (e.g., General Liability, Property, Auto, Umbrella/Excess, Workers' Compensation, Professional Lines).
  • Proven success in negotiating complex placements and multi-layered risks.
  • Advanced understanding of carrier underwriting philosophies and market dynamics.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work, collaborate, and communicate with individuals at varying levels across the organization.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Strong computer operating skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and Applied (EPIC) CMS.
  • Responsive and self-motivated team player.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail.

  • This job reports to the VP of Underwriting & Market Placement.
  • In accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), this job is Exempt and not eligible for overtime compensation.
