Marketing and Communications Coordinator

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled Marketing Communications Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and executing strategic marketing and communications initiatives that clearly articulate and advance Palama Settlement’s mission, programs, and community impact. This role leads branding, digital and print communications, public relations, and marketing collateral across all platforms, ensuring consistent, high-quality messaging that supports community engagement, fundraising, and organizational growth.

**Essential Duties:**

Strategic Marketing & Communications

  • Develop, implement, and execute a comprehensive Marketing and Communications Plan with measurable annual and multi-year goals.
  • Plan and manage organization-wide marketing initiatives that support Palama Settlement’s mission, programs, fundraising, and community engagement.
  • Create and execute integrated marketing campaigns across print, digital, email, and social media platforms.
  • Ensure consistent brand identity and messaging across all communications.

Digital Communications & Technology

  • Create, manage, and distribute a bi-monthly email newsletter using Mailchimp; maintain accurate mailing lists, analyze performance metrics, and recommend improvements.
  • Oversee and maintain Palama Settlement’s WordPress website by publishing timely, accurate, and engaging content; ensuring consistency with organizational branding and messaging standards; and staying current with best practices in web design, accessibility, and user experience.
  • Coordinate and manage social media content across all platforms to align with organizational messaging and branding.

Content Creator & Design

  • Write, design, and edit content for newsletters, publications, press releases, promotional materials, and other communications as assigned.
  • Lead graphic design efforts for marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, signage, advertisements, annual reports, and digital assets.
  • Develop visual communications that convey messages clearly, creatively, and professionally.
  • Maintain and evolve Palama Settlement’s brand, including design concepts for apparel, promotional items, and event materials.
  • Utilize Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and related tools) to produce high-quality materials.

Events, Photography & Media

  • Lead the design and creation of marketing materials for all Palama Settlement special events.
  • Photograph and document events for marketing, storytelling, and archival purposes.
  • Coordinate advertising placement and media buys.
  • Manage public relations initiatives, including drafting and distributing press releases; monitoring media coverage across print, broadcast, online, and radio outlets; supporting crisis communications in coordination with the Executive Director; and building and maintaining Palama Settlement’s presence in local and regional media.

Collaboration & Administration

  • Coordinate marketing strategies with corporate and community partners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and business partners to ensure cost-effective and fiscally responsible marketing decisions.
  • Assist the Executive Director and/or Fund Development staff with donor and corporate informational materials, grant reports, and presentations as requested.
  • Coordinate Marketing Committee meetings, including preparing agendas, taking accurate minutes, and distributing finalized documentation.
  • Represent Palama Settlement at community events as needed.

Compliance & Other Duties

  • Comply with mandated reporting laws related to suspected child or vulnerable adult abuse or neglect and report concerns to a supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including support for organizational initiatives, special projects, and events.

**Working Conditions:**

  • Environment: Office-based; primarily sedentary with regular computer use.
  • Schedule: Full-time; Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break. Occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends may be required.
  • Location: Based at Palama Settlement. Some off-site duties may occur. The Administration Office is located on the second floor and is only accessible via stairs.
  • Travel: Occasional travel for meetings and events.

**Qualifications:**

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred; degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or business administration strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in marketing and/or communications.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a nonprofit organization in a related role.

Skills & Knowledge

  • The ideal candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), with experience using Mailchimp or similar email marketing platforms, managing WordPress websites, and working across social media platforms and analytics tools. Experience developing and launching new marketing initiatives is highly desirable, along with a passion for community-based work and social services.

**Physical Demands**

  • Regular: Sitting, talking, hearing, using hands, walking up and down stairs, and reaching with arms.
  • Frequent: Standing, walking, lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasional: Climbing, balancing, lifting up to 25–50 pounds.

**Additional Requirements**

  • Valid Hawai‘i driver’s license.
  • Proof of auto insurance and access to a registered, insured vehicle.
  • Background checks: (Hawai‘i Criminal Justice Data Center, National Sex Offender Registry, National Criminal History Database)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
