Marketing and Communications Director

Position Summary:

The Westport Weston Family YMCA (WWFY) is seeking a strategic, customer-centric, digital-savvy Director to develop and lead its efforts. In partnership with the CEO, the Director will develop, implement, and promote an integrated marketing and communications strategy and plan for excellent, consistent dissemination of messaging to build the brand, increase awareness and usage of the Y’s many programs and services, and deepen understanding of the impact of the Y’s mission/cause in the community. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with colleagues and be responsible for member, staff, Board, community, media, partner communications and touchpoints across different channels to ensure a positive stakeholder experience as it relates to the Y’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Provide strategic communications counsel and support to YMCA leadership.
  • Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy to ensure clear, concise, consistent messaging for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide training and support to YMCA staff regarding Y brand, community impact, optimization of message etc.
  • Develop a comprehensive, integrated multi-channel communications and marketing infrastructure, including leveraging marketing and PR technology vendors, to consistently deliver the Y’s messaging and build awareness of the WWFY, its cause, mission, programs, and impact in the community in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Write, edit, and publish compelling multi-channel content (articles, reports, blogs, press releases, video, photo, brochures, etc.), for various internal and external stakeholders for print, web, social media, digital, etc.
  • Manage up to marketing staff (2) including Creative Services Manager and Digital Marketing Manager.
  • Review and revamp internal communications manuals, processes, messaging in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Track, analyze, measure, and report the effectiveness of communication channels, assets, and messaging for various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and manage an annual budget for maximum impact and liaise with relevant external agencies, media, and community partners.
  • Represent the Y at community and Y events throughout the year.
  • Be the lead point person on media interactions that promote the Y brand.
  • Create, manage, and distribute a communications and marketing calendar to keep staff informed of upcoming events, promotions, campaigns etc.
  • Complete Child Abuse Prevention training annually; Required to report any suspected cases of child abuse immediately to supervisor.

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital marketing, media relations, or in a related field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years in Marketing or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute a communications strategy and marketing plan including the conceptualization, development, management, and production of print, digital, email, web, and social (media) marketing content and other materials.
  • Experience with evaluating and upgrading communications platforms (ex, constant contact, Hootsuite etc.), website and mobile applications to enhance the member experience.
  • Experience with data analytics, surveys, and market research to identify and address member needs across traditional and digital platforms.
  • Strong writing and editing ability, with demonstrated experience in writing monthly reports and presentations, press releases, editorial, talking points, program-specific copy, story-telling about the organization’s impact, annual report, and more.
  • Self-directed, motivated, confident leader and able to effectively manage multiple projects at once in an energizing, fast-paced environment.
  • Cross-functional collaborator with demonstrated ability to build relationships and engage with a diverse set of internal stakeholders, community leaders, and organizations.
