Title: Marketing Assistant

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:

Assists in the development, implementation and promotion of Park District programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under direction creates marketing materials including print, digital and website to inform the public of upcoming Park District programs and events. Maintains a photo archive for easy access and reference to locate photos for press releases, brochures and the website. Distribute marketing material to the parks and other locations. During event management, may perform lifting tasks up to 25 pounds.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

  • Assists in the development, design, and distribution of promotional materials including seasonal program schedules, flyers, banners, advertisements, short videos, and digital graphics for social media and website to inform the public of upcoming Park District programs, facilities and events.
  • Maintains a photo archive for easy access and reference to locate photos for press releases, brochures and the website.
  • Assist in keeping the Chicago Park District's website updated with fresh content and photos. Assist with small video projects or digital ad campaigns on platforms like YouTube and Spotify.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree preferred. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One to three (1-3) years of marketing or communications experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop.

Ability to plan, organize and effectively present ideas and concepts both in writing and verbally.

Ability to relate to community groups

Creative writing and editing skills; Fundamental computer skills including Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, etc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job requires the employee to frequently sit and stand. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand and sit. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work is generally performed primarily in an office setting, in a smoke-free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. Travel to citywide Park District facilities, events, and meetings is required.
