Position: Marketing & Communications Manager

Reports to: President & CEO

FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt

ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, Visit North Central Massachusetts, and North Central Massachusetts Development Corporation (NCMDC) operate as a unified regional organization serving nearly 700 members across 27 communities in northern Worcester County and northwest Middlesex County. Our mission centers on "Building Businesses. Building Communities."

As a five-star accredited chamber and the region's destination marketing organization, we serve as the voice of business in North Central Massachusetts while promoting the region as a premier destination for tourism, business investment, and quality of life. Our work spans economic development, tourism marketing, business advocacy, and community building.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Marketing & Communications Manager leads the organization's marketing and communications efforts across the Chamber, NCMDC, and Visit North Central Massachusetts. This role is responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing strategies, managing digital platforms and content, coordinating with external contractors and vendors, and driving tourism marketing initiatives. The position works collaboratively with a part-time marketing advisor, external consultants, and internal team members to advance the organization's brand and drive member and visitor engagement. The ideal candidate will bring both strategic thinking and hands-on execution skills, with the ability to grow into a senior marketing leadership role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Marketing & Brand Management (40%)

  • Develop and execute annual marketing plans aligned with organizational goals across Chamber, tourism, and economic development initiatives
  • Lead tourism marketing campaigns and initiatives for Visit North Central Massachusetts, working collaboratively with marketing advisor
  • Create integrated marketing campaigns across digital, print, and social media channels
  • Develop compelling messaging and positioning for member recruitment, tourism promotion, and community engagement
  • Analyze marketing performance metrics and adjust strategies based on data and insights
  • Ensure brand consistency across all organizational communications and platforms

Digital Content & Platform Management (30%)

  • Oversee website content, updates, and user experience across all organizational websites using WordPress
  • Develop and implement social media strategy and content calendar across multiple platforms
  • Create and schedule engaging content working with team contributors across the organization
  • Manage blog content, member spotlights, tourism features, and digital storytelling initiatives
  • Design marketing materials, advertisements, and graphics for internal projects using Adobe Creative Suite and Canva
  • Manage email marketing campaigns using Constant Contact
  • Optimize digital presence for search, member engagement, and visitor attraction

Vendor & Project Coordination (20%)

  • Manage relationships with graphic designers, printers, PR consultants, and other marketing vendors
  • Coordinate production of Tourism Guide, quarterly newsletter, and other major publications
  • Supervise part-time marketing coordinator and collaborate closely with part-time marketing advisor on strategic initiatives and campaign execution
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables across multiple concurrent initiatives
  • Ensure quality control and brand consistency across all marketing materials

Grant Compliance & Reporting (10%)

  • Prepare marketing reports and documentation for tourism grants and funding sources
  • Track marketing metrics, outcomes, and impact data for grant reporting requirements
  • Assist marketing advisor with supporting materials for grant applications
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for grant compliance and audits

QUALIFICATIONS Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field; or minimum 6-8 years of demonstrated success in marketing and communications roles
  • Minimum 4-6 years of progressive marketing and communications experience with with proven ability to develop and execute successful campaigns and demonstrate measurable results
  • Portfolio of marketing work demonstrating strategic thinking and creative execution

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong strategic thinking with ability to develop marketing plans and campaigns
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency with WordPress for website content management
  • Experience with social media management across multiple platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva
  • Experience with email marketing platforms, particularly Constant Contact
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and coordinating with external contractors
  • Analytical mindset with ability to track metrics and use data to inform decisions
  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently with minimal supervision
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and brings creative solutions to challenges

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with tourism marketing or destination marketing organizations
  • Background in chamber of commerce, nonprofit, or association marketing
  • Experience with grant reporting and compliance
  • Familiarity with SEO, Google Analytics, and digital marketing best practices
  • Video creation and editing skills
  • Connection to or knowledge of North Central Massachusetts region

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily office-based work
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required for events, photography, and community engagement
  • Periodic travel within the 27-community region for site visits, events, and meetings
  • Extended computer use for content creation, design work, and digital marketing
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
