Founded in 1993, Multifamily NW is the leading trade organization for rental housing professionals across Oregon and SW Washington. Its member companies — property managers, owners, investors, and industry-service providers — represent more than 300,000 rental units. Multifamily NW advocates on behalf of the rental housing industry before local and state government, delivers professional education and the state's most comprehensively reviewed set of rental forms, and connects members through events and networking to help them operate successfully.

Position Summary

The Marketing and Communications Manager at Multifamily NW leads the strategy and execution of all external communications and marketing initiatives that support membership growth, education programs, events, sponsorship engagement, and advocacy efforts. This role serves as the steward of the association’s voice, ensuring consistent, accurate, and member-focused messaging across all channels.

This position plays a critical role in advocacy communications, supporting legislative priorities through press releases, government correspondence, member alerts, and public-facing messaging in coordination with leadership and government affairs volunteers.

The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, thrives in a fast-paced, event-driven environment, and is comfortable translating complex issues into clear, compelling communications.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy & Brand Management

  • Develop and execute annual marketing and communications plans aligned with Multifamily NW’s strategic priorities.
  • Maintain and evolve brand standards, messaging frameworks, and visual identity across all platforms.
  • Ensure consistent voice, tone, and positioning in all communications.

Content Development & Communications

  • Write, edit, and manage content for email campaigns, newsletters, website updates, social media, print materials, and reports.
  • Serve as lead editor to ensure clarity, accuracy, professionalism, and accessibility.
  • Support internal communications to staff, committees, and board leadership as needed.Advocacy & Government Affairs Communications
  • Draft and distribute advocacy communications including legislative alerts, action calls, press releases, and policy updates.
  • Prepare formal letters and written correspondence to elected officials, government agencies, and regulatory bodies in coordination with leadership and Government Affairs committees.
  • Support messaging around legislative sessions, ballot measures, regulatory changes, and advocacy campaigns.
  • Ensure advocacy communications are timely, accurate, and aligned with approved policy positions.

Events & Program Marketing

  • Plan and execute integrated marketing campaigns for education programs, networking events, conferences, and fundraisers.
  • Develop promotional timelines, email sequences, and digital assets in collaboration with program and events staff.

Membership & Sponsorship Promotion

  • Support membership recruitment, retention, and engagement through targeted marketing initiatives.
  • Create sponsor-facing materials, recognition assets, and post-event recap content to fulfill sponsorship benefits.

Digital Platforms & Analytics

  • Manage website content, email marketing platforms, and social media channels.
  • Track and report on key metrics including email engagement, website traffic, registrations, and campaign performance.
  • Use data to inform strategy adjustments and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with advocacy, education, events, sponsorship, and operations teams to align messaging, timing, and priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 4–7 years of marketing and communications experience, preferably in associations, nonprofits, or advocacy-driven organizations.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including experience with policy-oriented or advocacy communications.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms, CMS tools, and basic analytics reporting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a calendar-driven organization.
  • Association or government affairs experience strongly preferred.

Compensation

Compensation for this position is competitive and commensurate with the candidate's experience, education, and qualifications.
