Position Summary

The Marketing & Communications Specialist supports the mission of Scouting America – Longhouse Council by developing and executing marketing, communications, and digital engagement strategies that increase visibility, strengthen community relationships, and support membership, fundraising, and program outcomes. This position is responsible for content creation, social media management, website updates, email communications, and production of both digital and print materials.

Key ResponsibilitiesMarketing & Branding

· Implement consistent branding across all platforms following Scouting America and Longhouse Council guidelines.

· Create flyers, brochures, posters, and visual materials for programs, recruitment, fundraising campaigns, and events.

· Support and coordinate council-wide marketing initiatives, including membership drives, donor outreach campaigns, and district-level promotions.

Digital Communications

· Manage and update the council’s website, ensuring accurate, timely, and engaging content.

· Plan, schedule, and publish content across social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).

· Develop, design, and send email newsletters, announcements, and campaign messages through approved platforms.

· Monitor analytics and adjust messaging to increase reach and engagement.

Content Creation

· Produce written and visual content, including articles, videos, graphics, and photography for digital and print communication.

· Assist in scriptwriting, promotional video production, and digital storytelling for events and campaigns.

· Maintain a library of photos, logos, templates, and marketing assets.

Public Relations & Outreach

· Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and public statements.

· Support relationships with local media outlets and community partners.

· Assist with event marketing, promotions, signage, and day-of communications support.

Internal Communications

· Support internal communication efforts, including staff updates, volunteer messaging, and council-wide announcements.

· Provide marketing guidance to districts, units, and volunteer committees.

QualificationsRequired

· A degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or related field; or equivalent work experience.

· Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.

· Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable graphic design tools (Canva, etc.).

· Experience managing social media and digital content.

· Basic photography and video editing skills.

· Excellent organizational and project management abilities.

Preferred

· Experience working or volunteering in Scouting or other youth-serving nonprofits.

· Familiarity with CRM systems, email marketing tools, and website content management systems (WordPress, BlackPug, etc.).

· Understanding of SEO, analytics, and digital advertising.

Work Environment & Requirements

· Occasional evening or weekend work for Scouting events.

· Ability to travel within Central and Northern New York.

· Must maintain a valid driver’s license.

· Successful completion of Scouting America’s Safeguarding Youth requirements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
