Marketing Communications Specialist

Position Summary

The Iditarod Trail Committee and Dogz Events are seeking a highly organized, creative, and detail-oriented Marketing Communications Specialist to execute and manage digital communications across two nationally recognized brands: the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race® and DockDogs®.

This position is responsible for the day-to-day execution of social media, email marketing, audience engagement, and digital campaign coordination. Working under the direction of the Marketing Director, the Marketing Communications Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining a consistent brand presence, supporting event promotion, and engaging audiences across multiple platforms.

Key ResponsibilitiesSocial Media Management

  • Execute daily social media activity across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other digital platforms
  • Schedule, publish, and monitor content across both organizations
  • Moderate comments and engage with online communities
  • Support live and real-time event coverage during races, championships, and major activations
  • Maintain organized content calendars aligned with campaigns and sponsorship deliverables

Email Marketing & CRM

  • Build and deploy email campaigns, newsletters, and promotional communications
  • Manage audience segmentation and email list organization
  • Support CRM and email marketing platform management
  • Monitor email analytics and provide performance reporting

Campaign Execution

  • Support integrated marketing campaigns across the Iditarod and DockDogs
  • Execute promotional campaigns related to events, merchandise, raffles, subscriptions, sponsorships, and audience engagement initiatives
  • Ensure consistent messaging across all communication channels

Event Communications Support

  • Provide real-time communication support during race operations and other major events
  • Assist with live updates, storytelling, and audience engagement during onsite activations

Reporting & Optimization

  • Track social media and email performance metrics
  • Identify opportunities to improve engagement, reach, and communication effectiveness
  • Provide regular reporting and insights to the Marketing Director and staff from both organizations

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with internal departments, event teams, photographers and external partners to coordinate communications and content needs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience in marketing, communications, digital media, or related fields will also be considered.
  • Experience managing social media platforms for brands, organizations, events, or businesses
  • Strong written communication and storytelling skills
  • Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp, MailPoet, or similar systems
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and event schedules as needed
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, live-event environments
  • Familiarity with digital analytics and reporting tools preferred
  • Graphic design, photography, video editing, or livestream experience is a plus

Position Type

  • Full-Time, remote
  • Some travel and event-based work required
  • Flexible schedule during peak event and race seasons

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
