Position Title: Marketing Coordinator

About the Museum

The Historical Society of Western Virginia operates the Roanoke History and O. Winston Link Museums, and is located in the historic Norfolk & Western Passenger Station across from Hotel Roanoke in downtown Roanoke.

Position Overview

The Marketing Coordinator will oversee the museum’s website development and updates, while supporting general marketing and communications initiatives. This part-time, in-person role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with both technical and creative skills who can keep the museum’s digital presence current, engaging, and aligned with its mission. The position will transition to include social media marketing within Facebook and Instagram. Remote option not available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain website content including exhibitions, events, membership, and visitor information
  • Ensure the website remains accessible, visually appealing, and mobile-friendly
  • Perform regular site audits for broken links, outdated content, and usability issues
  • Implement design or structural updates as needed
  • Monitor website analytics and recommend improvements to enhance visibility and engagement
  • Social Media marketing for Instagram and facebook
  • Support the development of print and digital materials (brochures, signage, flyers)
  • Collaborate with staff to create effective communications between multiple social media, news, and printed platforms
  • Maintain consistent branding and messaging across all marketing materials
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience in website design, development, and content management (WordPress, Squarespace, or similar platforms)
  • Understanding of SEO, accessibility, and website analytics tools (Google Analytics, Search Console, etc.)
  • Basic graphic design and layout skills (Canva, Adobe Express, or Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Strong writing and editing abilities with attention to detail and tone
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple small projects independently
  • Familiarity with nonprofit or museum communications preferred
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Compensation

  • Part-time position, $15 per hour - up to 10 hours per week
