About Manning
Manning Publications is a leading independent publisher of high-quality technical books, courses, and digital learning products for software developers, data scientists, engineers, and technology professionals worldwide. Our authors are practitioners and experts, and our audience values accuracy, depth, and authenticity.
As our technical portfolio continues to grow across areas such as data science, AI, machine learning, cloud computing, and software engineering, we are looking for a Marketing Manager who can bridge deep technical understanding with modern, engaging marketing execution.
The Role
We are seeking a Marketing Manager with a strong science, engineering, or data science background who is excited to move into a more outward-facing, promotional role.
This is not a traditional “brand marketing” position. Instead, the role focuses on promoting highly technical content in ways that resonate with developers, engineers, and data professionals — particularly through social networks, online communities, and content-driven engagement.
You will act as a translator between technical substance and audience excitement.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Content Promotion
- Develop and execute marketing campaigns for technical books, courses, and live learning products.
- Translate complex technical topics into compelling, accessible messaging without oversimplifying.
- Work closely with editors, authors, and product teams to understand content deeply before promoting it.
Social & Community Engagement
- Lead organic promotion across social platforms (e.g. LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Reddit, Discord, technical forums).
- Engage authentically with developer and data science communities — not just broadcasting, but participating.
- Identify trends, conversations, and emerging topics within technical communities and feed insights back into marketing strategy.
Author & Influencer Collaboration
- Partner with authors to amplify their content and personal brands.
- Support authors with social posts, launch strategies, and community engagement ideas.
- Build relationships with technical influencers, speakers, and practitioners.
Data-Driven Marketing
- Use analytics to measure campaign performance and audience engagement.
- Experiment with messaging, formats, and channels, using data to iterate and improve.
- Work closely with sales and product teams to align marketing efforts with commercial outcomes.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Essential
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in pure science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or data science.
- Strong personal interest in technology, software, or data-driven fields.
- Natural inclination toward sharing, explaining, and promoting ideas.
- Comfortable and confident engaging on social platforms and online communities.
- Excellent written communication skills, especially for technical audiences.
Highly Desirable
- Experience in data science, software development, analytics, or technical research.
- Prior exposure to marketing, content creation, evangelism, or community management (formal or informal).
- Understanding of developer culture and how technical audiences evaluate credibility.
- Familiarity with tools such as HubSpot, Google Analytics, social scheduling tools, or similar platforms.
Who This Role Is Perfect For
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Started in science, data, or engineering, but discovered they enjoy communication, promotion, and engagement just as much as analysis.
- Enjoys being the person who explains, shares, and champions great work.
- Is curious, commercially aware, and comfortable being visible in public-facing channels.
- Wants to influence how technical knowledge reaches a global audience.
What We Offer
- A mission-driven company focused on high-quality learning.
- Direct access to world-class authors and cutting-edge technical content.
- The opportunity to shape how technical education is marketed globally.
