The Production Designer position within Keeneland’s Marketing Department supports Keeneland’s various business lines and internal clients by preparing the layout, design, and production of high-volume print materials, most notably the Race Meet Program for Spring and Fall meets. This role combines strong layout expertise with graphic design capabilities to ensure all materials meet Keeneland’s brand standards. Operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, this position serves as a key resource for both core business deliverables and year-round marketing and print needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Lead the production of the official Race Meet Program, preparing the design, layout, and coordinating daily with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and quality.

Prepare and produce high-volume, detail-oriented print materials including media guides, sales catalogs, customer service booklet, business cards, forms, menus, brochures, and other core business collateral.

Translate large amounts of content into clean, organized, and visually compelling layouts, ensuring clarity, readability, and adherence to brand standards.

Collaborate with internal stakeholders and outside departments to gather content, manage revisions, and deliver final production files.

Serve as a subject matter expert in print production processes, including file preparation, proofing, paper selection, and vendor coordination.

Maintain and update existing print materials, files and templates, ensuring consistency and efficiency across recurring projects.

Provide graphic design support for marketing campaigns, promotional materials, and internal requests during non-peak race meet periods.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing long-term production timelines with short-term creative requests.

Ensure all materials meet Keeneland brand standards while identifying opportunities to enhance design quality and visual storytelling.

Track project progress and communicate updates through project management tools like Asana, Microsoft Office products, SharePoint and team collaboration.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have strong experience in the current Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), with a strong emphasis on InDesign for long-form layout and production. The ideal candidate has experience designing and formatting documents with large amounts of copy, such as programs, catalogs, or publications, and possesses a strong understanding of typography, layout, and information hierarchy. A solid working knowledge of the print production processes including file preparation, proofing, and vendor coordination is required. This individual must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of proofreading with a high degree of accuracy. Success in this role requires the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment, communicate effectively across departments, and collaborate with both internal stakeholders and external partners. The position also demands a high level of reliability and commitment, including the ability to work extended hours during peak production periods, particularly surrounding race meets and sales.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
An associate or bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Publishing, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of three to five years of professional experience in production design, publishing, or print layout, with a strong emphasis on high-volume, detail-oriented work. Equivalent hands-on experience in print production, long-form layout, or publication design may be considered in lieu of formal education.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
The position requires the ability to perform basic mathematical functions in support of layout and print production needs, including calculating dimensions, scaling, and specifications for various materials. This includes the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, to ensure accuracy in formatting, sizing, and production requirements.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to organize and interpret large volumes of information and translate into clear, structured layouts. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt quickly in deadline-driven environments.

Kentucky State Racing Commission License.
