SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Marketing and Development Manager, this person is responsible for a variety of tasks related to the promotion of library services and programs, special events, projects, and outreach. Employees will acquire skills needed through on-the-job training. This individual performs related and other work as required.


REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Training and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be proficient in various software packages in a Windows environment including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Preferred Training and Experience

  • Experience in Marketing, Social Media, Public Relations, Communications, or related field.
  • Successful completion of college coursework in Marketing, Social Media, Public Relations, Communications or related field.

Highly Desirable Training and Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • Experience in video production and/or content creation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of:

  • Current technology
  • Techniques and methods (including the use of graphics) for producing and disseminating information

Skills to:

  • Complete simple mathematical computations, statistics and averages
  • Read and understand the format of library materials and their usage by patrons
  • Effectively promote the library system and its services, programs and initiatives

Ability to:

  • Learn and follow library principles, policies and procedures
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Use resourcefulness, tact, courtesy, and respect to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, on the phone and in person, with supervisor team, co-workers, and the public
  • Work well with the public, department heads, supervisor and other staff members

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary work that would require the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.


Eye, hand, foot coordination to use a computer and office equipment, hearing and talking in order to provide internal and external customer service, sitting in order to use a computer, near visual acuity in order to use a computer.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with the promotion of library services, resources and programs.
  • Assist in the production of Marketing and promotional materials including posters, flyers, digital images, and social media content.
  • Ensures that Shreve Memorial Library branding guidelines are adhered to in order to maintain library branding.
  • Assist in the preparation of Marketing reports and maintenance of records.
  • Gathers data pertaining to media mentions, public relations value, marketing trends, etc.
  • Answers routine questions and responds to inquiries from staff and the public related to the promotion of library resources, services, and programs via telephone, e-mail, or in person communication.
  • Serves as a member of the Outreach team and represents Shreve Memorial Library at and attends community functions and outreach events.
  • Assist with planning and placement of marketing and advertising.
  • Serves on Library Committees as appropriate and attends meetings of appointed committees.
  • Attends staff meetings and other meetings as necessary.
  • Meets quarterly with supervisor for work review meetings.
  • This position requires travel to other locations for work, meetings and training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PRESENT SCHEDULE
Monday – Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

SALARY

$17.50 hourly + benefits

Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. Tuition reimbursement available after one year of employment.


A criminal background check, drug screening, and reference check are part of the pre-hire process. The State of Louisiana Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information and these checks will be conducted on a yearly basis for positions which provide outreach to daycare centers. A mandatory full day orientation is part of the new hire process; these orientations are scheduled on Tuesdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
