General Definition of Work

Performs work responsible for developing and coordinating strategic marketing/communications plans for the Parks & Recreation Department. Key aspects of the job include developing creative for business and customer (internal/external) centric functions such as graphic design, social media, communications, website and the like for the Park & Recreation Department facilities, programs, events and projects.

Essential Functions

  • Plans, develops and executes successful, holistic strategies and marketing programs to assist the department and the City in the area of efficient and successful Parks & Recreation services, products and promotion.
  • Develops, optimizes and executes key and timely marketing functions for the department including but not limited to the creative design/development and promotion of print, electronic and digital publications, photography, TV monitor ads, social media, website development, sponsorship and partnership procurement and content accuracy.
  • Tracks, measures and analyzes initiatives and communicates with staff regarding program registration and attendance, facility and event usage date, trends, reporting and research to ensure process improvement.
  • Develops and executes successful business relationships with outside media, marketing agencies – TV, radio, newspaper and other media outlets relative to City goals.
  • Provides for efficient and effective organization, communication, evaluation and reporting on goals and initiatives.
  • Monitors social media platforms, websites and email for citizen inquiries or concerns and provides timely feedback to ensure circulation of accurate information.
  • Provides program and event marketing coverage, personally or through assigned staff, as needed after hours and on weekends. Ensures the timely release of marketing follow up on events and programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Recreation or related field.
  • Qualified applicants must possess a valid Driver's License
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
Salary per year $44,794, plus a generous benefit package.

  • Bi-weekly pay periods.
  • Twelve paid holidays per year.
  • 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
  • 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
  • 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
  • City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
  • City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
  • Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee's expense.
  • Optional vision insurance purchased at employee's expense.
  • Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.

  • Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $31.77 hourly/$66,084 yearly.
