Key Responsibilities
- Construction and Assembly: Place bricks, stones, concrete blocks, and other masonry units to build structures.
- Material Preparation: Mix and apply mortar or concrete, and spread or finish poured concrete surfaces.
- Finishing Work: Smooth and finish concrete surfaces, such as sidewalks, floors, or curbs.
- Tool and Material Handling: Use various hand and power tools, such as chisels, levels, plumb lines, and power trowels.
- Technical Skills: Read and follow technical drawings and blueprints for construction projects.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform restorations on old and worn masonry structures.
- Safety and Site Management: Adhere to construction safety standards, use personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain tools and the work area
- Installs ceramic tile, stone, and marble on floors, walls, and other surfaces by preparing surfaces, cutting and shaping materials, applying adhesives, and finishing the installation with grout and sealers.
- Their work requires attention to detail, strong physical stamina for bending and kneeling, and the ability to read blueprints to ensure precise and aesthetically pleasing installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation:Examine blueprints and surfaces to determine material needs, measure and mark surfaces, and prepare them by applying a cement mortar coat to a metal screen or attaching waterproof paper.
- Cutting and Shaping:Use wet saws, hand and power cutting tools, and tile scribes to cut and shape tiles to fit accurately around obstacles, into corners, and to create decorative patterns.
- Adhesive Application:Mix and apply mortar, cement, mastic, or other adhesives using a trowel to create a stable bed for the tiles.
- Tile Setting:Lay the cut tiles onto the prepared surface, pressing or tapping them into the adhesive to ensure they are firmly affixed and level.
- Grouting:Apply grout between the tiles using a rubber trowel (float) to fill the joints.
- Finishing:Wipe the tiles after the grout has set to remove residue and polish the surface for a clean, finished look.
- Sealing:Apply a sealer to the grout joints to make them stain- and water-resistant.
