Match Support Specialist

Position Summary:

The Match Support Specialist ensures that every Big and Little match is safe, supported, and thriving while also contributing to community engagement, partnership development, and organizational visibility. This role is primarily focused on match support, with additional responsibilities in community engagement, partnerships, and organizational support. The balance of responsibilities may shift based on caseload, community needs, and organizational priorities. Success in this role means strong, lasting matches; engaged participants; meaningful community presence; and consistent contributions to BBBSAK’s impact and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Match Support & Relationship Coaching (Primary Focus)

  • Provide ongoing match support in alignment with BBBS Standards of Practice
  • Ensure child safety and apply sound judgment in identifying and addressing concerns
  • Coach Bigs, Littles, and families to build strong, lasting relationships
  • Identify challenges early and implement appropriate support strategies
  • Conduct regular match contacts and maintain accurate, timely documentation
  • Support match closure processes, including exit interviews and re-match assessment

2. Match Engagement & Experience

  • Plan and facilitate, in coordination with team members, regular match activities
  • Coordinate and support family engagement opportunities (at least quarterly)
  • Encourage participation in activities and community opportunities
  • Help create positive, engaging experiences that strengthen relationships

3. Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Represent BBBSAK through presentations, tabling events, and community outreach
  • Recruit volunteers (Bigs) and youth (Littles) into the program
  • Build relationships with schools, employers, and community organizations
  • Contribute to partnership development that supports match engagement (e.g., discounts, activities, incentives)
  • Collaborate with team members to identify and share opportunities that enhance match experiences
  • Encourage volunteer engagement through workplace and community connections

4. Storytelling & Organizational Engagement

  • Identify and share impactful match stories
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Development to support campaigns and events
  • Encourage participation of Bigs and families in organizational initiatives
  • Support community awareness and visibility of BBBSAK’s impact

5. Event Coordination & Community Activation

  • Coordinate local logistics for key events (e.g., securing venues, supporting outreach)
  • Partner with internal teams to support event implementation
  • Promote events and encourage participation among Bigs, Littles, and families
  • Serve as a local connector to support strong community turnout and engagement

Qualifications:

  • Must have high school diploma/GED equivalent, and meet one of the following criteria:
  • A documented bachelor’s degree, from an accredited college or university, in a related field, or within six months of degree completion;
  • A documented associates degree or two years of higher education experience, from an accredited college or university in a related field, and two years of relevant work experience in related fields such as social work, counseling, social services, child development or other related field;
  • Four years of relevant work experience in related fields, such as social work, counseling, social services, child development or other related field.
  • Experience working with youth and/or families preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience with trauma-informed care preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Access to reliable transportation

Work Environment:

This position includes a combination of remote work, in-person meetings, and community-based activities. Regular travel within the Anchorage area is expected.

Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
