SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Material Control Specialist is responsible for the cost effective and timely performance of duties in the areas of Material Control, Shipping & Receiving, Tool Stores, Finished Part Stores and Raw Material Stores. This individual will support the business and will help establish strategies that streamline flow, remove constraints, increase velocity through the shop and improve inventory turnover.

This position is in Northstar’s Supply Chain/Production Control Department and reports directly to the Planning and Scheduling Manager. This position works closely with Operations and Finance to ensure accuracy of inventory as reported in the ERP system and timely completion of transactions related to shipping, receiving, issuing material, amongst other related transactions. This is a full-time and on-site position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and risk-free production environment
  • Abide by ITAR requirements
  • Monitor and maintain accurate inventory records in the ERP system
  • Coordinate and assist with performing regular cycle counts with direction from Finance Department
  • Coordinate and assist with performing physical inventory audits
  • Make any required inventory adjustments to raw material, finished goods, WIP, warehouse hardware stock, internal testing sample stock following cycle counts or inventories
  • Ensure compliance to first in first out (FIFO) for inventory for hardware, raw material, etc.
  • Performs daily transaction required to issue material to jobs
  • Collaborate with production and purchasing teams to ensure material availability and communicate release plan requirements upon receipt of materials
  • Track items in the shop to verify jobs for the current month/quarter are running at operations needed/scheduled and communicate gaps or stalled jobs to the team
  • Work to identify and match up slow moving inventory with upcoming production jobs to reduce reserves and slow moving work in process.
  • Assists with locating missing job books or records on the floor
  • Establish and manage an organized area for the storage of raw material, work in process, purchased components and finished goods, as well as Northstar, customer and government owned tooling. parts and tooling
  • Ensure all parts are identified and traceable in accordance with customer requirements and delivery dates meet the dates committed to the customer

  • Perform daily transaction required to or manage splits or release new jobs
  • Perform daily transactions to support delivery plan with stocking/shipping transactions
  • Perform daily transaction to receive raw material and outside processing
  • Assist with creation of packing slips
  • Verify job books and ERP system comply prior to jobs shipping to outside processing or coming up to final inspection
  • Coordinate with Suppliers and Operations in establishing and maintaining a secure and readily available inventory of consumable tools and supplies for shop use
  • Coordinate with outside suppliers, vendors and other Northstar sites as necessary to support the manufacturing plan.
  • Ensure KPI goals (production, inventory, MRR/MRB, etc.) are established, communicated and achieved; report on results as required
  • Maintain personnel relationships consistent with applicable collective bargaining agreements

  • Position requires a mix of sitting, standing and walking on a regular basis. Occasional requirements may include reaching, kneeling, bending and lifting
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may have occasional exposure to moderate noise
  • The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc. as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Materials Management, is preferred. Associates degree in combination with relative experience will also be considered.

Experience Required: Minimum of 2 years of production/inventory control/supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment, is preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED

The knowledge, skills and abilities required and/or preferred for this position are listed below. This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.

  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes in a MIL-Spec environment
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing concepts in a manufacturing environment; specifically, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Visual Controls Kanbans, Supermarkets, and Continuous Flow
  • Ability to develop and manage digital visual controls systems and dashboards
  • Strong ERP (preferably CSI) and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to various levels within the organization as well as to external customers and vendors
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
