Material Handler/Overhead Crane Operator


Summary:
Operates traveling or stationary overhead crane (ground controlled) to lift, move, and position loads of steel within the production facility.


Salary:
$20 - $23/hr


Shift:
6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday - Friday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observes load hookup and determine the safety of the load.

  • Manipulates or depresses crane control buttons, to regulate the speed and direction of crane and hoist movement.

  • Uses hoisting attachments such as hook, sling, or bucket as load requires.

  • Cleans and maintains a crane and hoisting mechanism.

  • Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Material handler I competency or 4 years related experience and training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • Basic math including fractions, decimals, and chart reading.
  • Computer Skills
    • Able to utilize basic computer programs including email, and production software.
  • Machine Skills & Knowledge
    • Competent with operations of cleaning, packaging, and skid-building equipment.
    • Competent with forklift operations.
    • Competent with overhead crane operations and below-hook devices.
    • Competent with rail unloading equipment.
