POSITION SUMMARY
The Material Quoter is responsible for developing accurate material cost estimates and customer quotations for cable assemblies, wire harnesses, PCB assemblies, and electronic manufacturing projects. This position works closely with Program Management, Purchasing, Engineering, and suppliers to analyze Bills of Material (BOMs), evaluate material availability and pricing, and develop competitive quotes that support business growth and customer satisfaction. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze multi-level Bills of Material (BOMs) and identify discrepancies, cost drivers, and sourcing opportunities.
- Review customer RFQs, BOMs, drawings, Gerber files, and supporting documentation to develop accurate material cost estimates.
- Create, maintain, and organize quote documentation within the Quote Log and ERP systems.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, lead times, and material availability.
- Prepare customer quotations utilizing approved quoting software and costing methodologies.
- Coordinate International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR) reviews and approvals when applicable.
- Monitor materials and collaborate with customers and suppliers to identify suitable alternatives.
- Enter and maintain supplier pricing, quote data, and cost sheets accurately.
- Work closely with Program Management, Purchasing, Engineering, and Production to ensure quote accuracy and feasibility.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to the quoting and costing process.
- Maintain compliance with company quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, and data analysis.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain concepts, and cost structures.
- Knowledge of electronic components, cable assemblies, PCB fabrication, or contract manufacturing preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to analyze large amounts of data with a high degree of accuracy.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of a High school diploma or GED required.
- 2-3 years’ experience working in quoting, customer service, or related field in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior experience with Quoting software will be beneficial but not required.
- Experience with ERP systems is preferred but not required; we are willing to train the right candidate.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information, reports, and documents. Ability to communicate effectively across multiple site functions and team members. Ability to effectively present information to top management and public groups.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
