A Material Request Engineer (MRE)

manages the logistics of getting specific materials for projects, focusing on procurement, tracking, reporting, and ensuring availability, bridging the gap between engineering needs and purchasing, handling purchase requisitions, monitoring stock, and ensuring timely delivery for operations like construction or turnarounds, while also supporting general materials management and documentation.

Core Responsibilities: Procurement & Logistics

  • Material Procurement: Handles the actual buying and acquisition of construction or project materials.
  • Purchase Requisitions (PRs): Prepares and monitors PRs, ensuring they reach the purchasing department.
  • Material Tracking: Monitors material movement from PR stage to delivery on site, managing reservations and deliveries.
  • Supplier Liaison: Coordinates with suppliers and warehouses for timely material availability.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Budget & Expense Tracking: Monitors material costs, budgets, and project expenses.
  • KPIs & Reports: Generates materials monitoring KPIs, status reports, and other reports for various departments.
  • Problem Solving: Prepares follow-up reports on critical material issues.

Documentation & Support

  • Documentation: Prepares and manages documents for all office and project activities and transactions.
  • Database Management: Maintains a library of material details for future reference.
  • Team Support: Assists higher-level engineers with daily workloads and project needs.

Project-Specific Duties (e.g., Turnarounds)

  • Ensures materials are on-site before project/turnaround starts.
  • Manages material issuance to contractors.
  • Assists with material reconciliation post-project.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering(Electrical,civil/mechanical)
  • at least 2 years of experience in material management, procurement, or project logistics (industry-dependent)
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes and supply chain management
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications
  • Strong coordination, communication, and organizational skills
