Position Overview
The Material Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of materials across the organization, from receipt of raw goods to delivery of finished products. This role focuses on inventory accuracy, storage optimization, and supply chain efficiency while driving continuous improvement through lean practices. The Material Manager collaborates with production, logistics, and procurement teams to reduce waste, improve processes, and support production planning and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Track inventory levels, manage cycle counts, maintain accuracy, and organize materials (bins, racks, storage locations) for optimal accessibility.
- Manage ERP part setup, configuration, and administration to ensure accurate data and efficient workflows.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements using lean methodologies to optimize material flow and reduce waste.
- Oversee material flow, storage, and utilization to maximize efficiency and minimize delays.
- Work with suppliers and internal teams to resolve issues with non-conforming materials.
- Assist with cost-saving initiatives, product trials, and process evaluations.
- Monitor and collaborate with Purchasing Manager on scrap codes, inventory turns, volumes, and material requirements for operational efficiency.
- Manage obsolete or excess inventory, including review and recommendations for disposition.
- Oversee Shipping & Receiving personnel and warehouse management.
- Collaborate with production and transportation teams to proactively direct schedules for timely and efficient delivery to customers.
- Collaborate with Transportation Manager to coordinate material movement internally and externally to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Monitor reorder points, stock levels, and production requirements.
- Track KPIs such as IRA, delivery performance, and fill rates.
- Lead and support initiatives to improve material flow and supply chain processes.
- Track and manage open orders, addressing delays or issues proactively.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- 5+ years of experience in materials management, supply chain, or warehouse operations.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems, inventory management, and material handling.
- Experience with lean process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams.
